When you think of has-been actors, if Leonardo DiCaprio comes to mind, then you need to seriously re-evaluate your life choices.
Not only is he one of the highest paid actors in the business, he's also critically acclaimed, outspoken, and a wildly successful businessman (him and Tobey Maguire made a ton off Casper mattresses).
Leo pretty much has his pick of any role in any movie he could want. Which is why a lot of people are talking about his choice to produce a live action version of Captain Planet.
Now you might remember Captain Planet as being awesome, but let me jog your memory and prove how wrong your childhood was.
And that's the intro, which was the best part of the show.
Captain Planet is a mullet-rocking dorkface and the planeteers are even lamer, so why the heck is Leo backing a movie based on this '90s cartoon?
Aside from the nostalgia factor, there are a few things to consider. The first is that Leo is big on saving the environment, which was the entire premise of the Captain Planet TV show. The bad guys are big businesses who are trying to turn a profit by destroying mother earth.
Making Captain Planet a "washed up has-been" in the film points to the fact that the movie will have an awareness of how cheesy it is.
The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that the film will take on a more serious tone, and that it's going to be produced by Paramount. There's no word yet on who will play Captain Planet, but if he's slightly older and grizzled, DiCaprio could definitely be a fit for the character.
Hopefully they're not thinking of this horribly photoshopped Bradley Cooper for the role.
I heard that Don Cheadle has already done the role before, through.
Sorry for the nightmares, people. (h/t hollywood reporter)
