In 1994, Jeff Bezos started his then online marketplace for books Amazon from his garage in Bellevue, Wash. before expanding to sell other products including electronics, apparel, toys, and jewelry. By 2015, Amazon went on to surpass Walmart as the most valuable retailer in the United States.
In 2017, Amazon acquired Whole Foods and in 2018 it launched its two-day delivery service called Prime. Today, it is the second-largest private employer in the United States and Amazon Prime has over 100 million subscribers worldwide.
