From the moment she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been making waves in politics.
At age 29, she became the youngest woman to ever serve in the United States Congress, and her strong social media presence and Twitter clap-backs have been noteworthy, too.
Now, it appears as though Alexandria has taken a huge step in her personal life and is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Riley Roberts. With that being said, what do we know about him and their relationship? Keep reading for all of the juicy details.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now engaged to her longtime boyfriend Riley Roberts.
Alexandria and Riley Roberts met and started dating while in college at Boston University. According to Riley's LinkedIn profile, he's a UX Growth Consultant who “helps SaaS and subscription startups sustainably grow their monthly recurring revenue."
He also works as Head of Product at HomeBinder.com.
Although the duo kept their relationship largely private throughout her time in the public eye as an elected representative, AOC fans could always catch glimpses of Riley in the politician's more candid posts about her day-to-day life. Riley also accompanied AOC to the 2021 Met Gala.
On May 19, 2022, AOC took to Twitter to confirm the news that she and Riley are officially engaged. "It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes," she wrote in response to a news article about the engagement.
The representative gave a few more details to Business Insider, sharing "We got engaged last month in my family's hometown in Puerto Rico. No future details yet, we're taking some space to savor this time before diving into planning."
Alexandria's boyfriend appeared in the Netflix film 'Knock Down the House.'
Netflix's Knock Down the House follows the stories of "four inspiring women who took on history in the 2018 midterm election," which included AOC. In the documentary, viewers got a glimpse of the elected official's fiancè — and let's just say "bin raccoon" was among the terms used to describe Riley at the time.
"The internet roasted Riley into getting a haircut / glow-up after Knock Down the House," Alexandria captioned a since-expired Instagram Story video of Riley after his transformation.
AOC and Riley are also proud puppy parents.
In January 2020, Alexandria adopted a French bulldog puppy with her boyfriend; she took to her Instagram Story to announce the adorable news.
One follower then asked, "Will your pup be coming to the hill with you???"
“The goal is to train him to be a community pup,” AOC replied, sharing a photo of her puppy. “Ideally we want to work to the point where he can enjoy town halls, be an Amtrak pup, come to the office, etc. But first, naps.”
Shortly after, Alexandria revealed the name she and Riley chose for their French bulldog: Deco.
"A neighbor suggested we name him after an artist," she wrote. "We loved that idea, and decided to name him after Riley & I's favorite design styles: Art Deco — which is also inspired by themes of optimism & social and technological progress, and is a fixture in iconic NYC architecture."
More recently, AOC shared a video of Riley's feet on Instagram Live, telling her followers, "So we recently went to Florida, where Republicans developed an obsession with Riley's feet... So give the people what they want!" Riley could be heard laughing in the background.
We love a couple that can laugh together! Congrats to the happy duo on their upcoming nuptials.
