Former University of Iowa player Caitlin Clark has been in the headlines seemingly constantly since transitioning to professional sports.
The number one WNBA draft pick, who found herself joining the Indiana Fever, certainly isn't just quietly sitting on the sidelines in her first season post-college.
Instead, Caitlin is just as much the talk of the town as she was when she was so closely watched at the college level.
Let's explore what has been going on with the Fever newbie, including facing an aggressive opponent and an ear injury.
What's going on with Caitlin Clark's ear injury?
First, we have an update on the WNBA player's ear injury. According to Marca, after an intense game with New York Liberty on June 2, 2024, Caitlin sustained an ear injury. However, not much is known about what's wrong with her ear or if she will be out of upcoming games as a result.
Backing up, most of America saw Chennedy Carter of the Chicago Sky shove Caitin in what was widely perceived as an incident involving unnecessary roughness.
Even Caitlin had something to say following the dicey foul. She said, "That's just not a basketball play. But, you gotta play through it. That's what basketball's about at this level."
Caitlin also commented post-game, "I grew up playing basketball with the boys. It’s always been physical and feisty and you have to find a way to hold your own."
But despite the backlash, Chennedy is standing by what she did. It's important to note that no injury was reported as a result of the shove seen 'round the world.
Chennedy Carter isn't backing down after she fouled Caitlin Clark.
Despite the scrutiny around what some fans felt was an assault on Caitlin on the court, the Sky player not only isn't apologizing, but she has gone on to insult her opponent.
Taking to Threads, Chennedy wrote, "And that’s that on that 'cause beside three-point shooting, what does she bring to the table man?"
Some social media users claim that this isn't the previously unknown player's first incident with rough behavior. Reportedly, she was let go from Atlanta after threatening to beat up her teammates, among other allegations.
Meanwhile, Chennedy even stood by her actions after the WNBA upgraded her foul to a flagrant-1 violation in a postgame review, tweeting, "We grown as f--k and y’all talking about enforcer. Man get the f--k out of here, hoop or shut up …."
Angel Reese, who was widely viewed as cheering on her teammate following the violation, was also fined $1,000 for refusing to be interviewed after the game. Her team received a $5,000 fine for violating media policies, per AP News.
As for how Caitlin handled the incident, if you ask her coach Christie Sides, she was a pro. Christie said, "She showed it last night. Got up and kept playing. All she did was ask the officials to review it. They didn’t want to listen to it. I applaud her for how she handled it last night.”
