If you've got a sweet tooth, you're going to want to pay attention.
There's a trend on TikTok in which creators are making candy salad. Yes, you read that correctly. And, it's as incredible as it sounds.
You can make candy salad for yourself or for a group. It makes a really great gift, and is a fun bonding activity, too. So, there's basically no downside. Read on for the full details of the sweetest trend sweeping the nation.
Candy salad is the most unhealthy salad there is, but that isn't the point.
"I have been seeing so many people making candy salad," TikTok creator @what_wood_kim_do says in her video chronicling the process.
She calls the concoction "very healing for the inner child" and then begs that you pay no attention to the sugar content!
Indeed, before you move on, put your reservations about consuming too much sugar aside.
Now that you're on board with this salad not being of the healthy variety, here's what to know.
First, the key to creating candy salad seems to be picking ingredients that aren't going to melt. So, think Nerds Gummy Clusters, Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, cut-up Sweet Tart Ropes or licorice, gummy bears — you get the picture.
One creator, @doodler85, adds wrapped Hershey's chocolate eggs to her Easter candy salad, but that was some of the only chocolate we saw being incorporated into the recipes online.
While some people are making candy salad in bowls or storage containers, and they seem to be meant for one, others plan a candy salad as a group activity.
Middle schoolers will each plan to bring a candy to add to the salad, and in they all go to a giant container. Then, each participant takes home a sandwich bag or similar of the mix.
A creator who shares content using the handle @ary_is_superswag shared how members of a color guard each contributed candy to a giant batch of sugary fun.
One member added wrapped mini chocolate candy bars the huge container of treats, but was questioned in the comments. "Now why would she put chocolate in a candy salad?" one TikTik user demanded.
"Always one person who put something in there with paper on it," lamented another person.
"Bye with the wrapper on," snarked yet another commenter who felt one participant didn't understand the assignment.
Kim Wood, the creator who feels passionately about candy salad being all about the inner child, went out on a limb and created an entire chocolate candy salad.
None of the candies had wrappers on them, such as peanut M&Ms. But as she explained, this version of candy salad is for indoors, like when you're watching a movie so as not to melt and become candy slop.
Ultimately, with something like this, there aren't any rules. If you are a chocolate lover and not so keen on gummy candy, then go for it! Just note that as one commenter cautioned, you're likely to eat the whole thing in one sitting!
