A carpet cleaning customer got slammed by a TikTok user named The Humble One (@yungblackandgifted) for purportedly attempting to finagle a free job from a business owner.
The Humble One slammed the client in a viral TikTok that's garnered over 6.1 million views on the popular social media platform.
The TikToker couldn't believe the gall of the customer and it appears that there were several other users on the app who also couldn't seem to wrap their heads around the person's gripe.
"Man y'all look at this. This dude is a carpet cleaner and this is the conversation between him and one of his clients. Y'all just gotta look at this," the TiikToker says into the camera. It's clear that he's teasing a snippet of their text conversation behind his head in a green-screen style video he's uploaded to the popular social media platform.
He then begins to narrate the text message dialogue between the carpet cleaner and their customer.
Customer: Hey sorry for texting so late! Deposit sent for appointment tomorrow, I'm just getting off work
Business: Good morning, headed to you now
Customer: Gm ok
Business: Just made it
Customer: Are you scared of dogs? She's a poodle lol
Customer: I'll put her up
Business: No lol she's ok!
Customer: Come through side door
At this point in the conversation the customer sends the carpet cleaner $200 via Apple Pay, which appears in the text message conversation between the two of them.
It seems like the payment was given to the TikToker for services rendered; however, a follow-up message from the social media user seems to intone that they didn't necessarily think the work performed was worth the price.
Customer: Hey I have a question
Business: Hey! What's your question?
Customer: Is this how it was suppose to look? I didn't get a chance to see it as soon as you finished and my husband is saying it looks half done
The TikToker also attached a picture of the carpet in their home to further drive home that the professional carpet cleaner may've not done the best job.
The business responded: "Yes ma'am, that's the best it was going to get considering the condition. I went over it several times as well. Could you specifically tell me what your issue is?"
It's at this point in the video that the TikToker urges his followers to "take note" of what the condition of the carpet was prior to their cleaning of it.
Customer: It just doesn't look clean. Especially for the price of $200 and we really don't have money to waste.
Business: I understand. $200 for was 4 rooms also not 1. But would you like me to redo it? I went over it to my ability so it won't be much of a difference if I do.
It's at this point that the customer in the video makes it clear what they're expecting from their aired gripe: a complete refund for the work that was conducted.
Customer: the refund is ok. [thumbs up emoji attached to the message]
Customer: Hello have you sent it ?
Customer: It's unprofessional af for you to NOT send my money back and just ignore me ! I need my money back now !
The business owner wasn't exactly having it with this exchange, as they wrote back: "You expect me to send you a full refund for a completed job ? No ma'am. Have a nice day," they said.
The client didn't really like this response.
Customer: I told you when you came in what I was expecting! And this is not it. Your unprofessional a-- rushed through my carpet, my husband even said the s--- ! We could have payed way less elsewhere for this bs, we don't have extra money spend. You need to send my money back now."
It's understandable why anyone would be upset with a business if they didn't provide the services they expected of them; however, as The Humble One points out, the client in question may've been a little deluded as to what the carpet cleaner could accomplish with their carpet, as they ended up showing a before picture of the rug prior to the business getting to work on cleaning it.
It's not just that there were stains on the carpet — it was a completely different color!
"Look at this s---," the TikToker narrates in the video after showing a green screen image of a carpet that looks like it was soaked in cigarette butts and Coca-Cola for months at a time.
"This s--- is black as me and you're telling me that he didn't do a good job? Oh y'all don't lost y'all d--- mind," he says at the end of the clipi.
It seems like there were several other TikTokers who agreed with his assessment of the exchange between client and business owner, including this person who wrote that they were happy the carpet cleaner minded their p's and q's and made sure to take before-and-after pictures for their work.
"Good thing he took pictures. They probably thought he didn’t."
Another person said that they were impressed at the quality of work exhibited by the business, writing that the customer in question was probably attempting to complain as a means of trying to get a free clean: "He did an excellent job. They just wanted a free clean."
Another person stated that the business actually ended up charging way too little for the carpet cleaning job: "He needed to send a request for another $400 ... that carpet got secrets!"
While another simply said: "She would have to take me to court."
What do you think? Did the business owner do a good job and the customer was simply attempting to try and get something for nothing? Or do you think that all customer gripes should be taken seriously, even if a carpet cleaner took a burnt milk latte to looking like a plain cup of two percent?
