It didn't take long for self-published author Colleen Hoover to find a home on BookTok. The writer's books quickly found an audience, with titles like It Ends With Us and Verity quickly becoming highly-recommended favorites on the app. It Ends With Us was also adapted for a feature film, starring Blake Lively and featuring Taylor Swift's song "My Tears Ricochet."
Despite publishing her first novel in 2012, it's only been the past few years that her books have taken off, making her a staple name passed around circles of romance readers (despite her continued controversies). But how much is the author's net worth? Let's dive into it.
What is Colleen Hoover's net worth?
Unfortunately, most authors aren't known for bringing in large net worths, unless they're particularly popular. Controversial Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is a rare instance of an author raking in millions, though there are others less established who also manage to sign significantly large publishing contracts and movie deals. Having sold more than 20 million books throughout her career, Colleen is another rare example.

Colleen Hoover is an American romance author, publishing new adult novels. Her works have gained popularity on TikTok, selling more than 20 million books in total.

Colleen's exact net worth isn't entirely clear, though the author has definitely passed seven figures. It helps that she self-published many of her titles before being picked up by a publisher, as there are fewer people involved to divide profits with for some of her titles.
That said, it's estimated that Colleen's net worth is at least $10 million dollars. This number is likely largely contributed to by the movie deal for It Ends With Us, which was inked after the title's readership boomed on TikTok.
Colleen Hoover received a lot of backlash for 'It Ends With Us.'
Though It Ends With Us was one of the books that helped put Colleen's name on the metaphorical romance novel map, she received a fair amount of backlash for the book's contents. The novel follows Lily, who moves back to her hometown after her college graduation to open a floral shop. While there, she meets and falls in love with Ryle, and they have a toxic relationship that mirrors the abusive one her parents had.
Colleen has stated publicly that she based the novel off of her own parents' marriage, calling it "by far the hardest book I’ve ever written" in an interview with the New York Daily News.
Following the book gaining popularity online, some claimed the novel was romanticizing abuse — a claim only further fueled by the various collaborations and canceled coloring book based on the novel.
Colleen also found herself in hot water after a woman alleged that her son assaulted her when she was only 16 and he was 21. The victim further claimed that when she reached out to Colleen to address her son's behavior, she was blocked.
The author refuted the victim's claim, saying "This absolutely did not happen, and this is not even initially what was said by this person."
"He said something to her in a message that made her uncomfortable (he asked her to send him a pic), so she messaged me about it," Colleen continued in defense of her son in a statement online. "I did not read this message, but she thought I did, and it understandably upset her that I didn't respond... AS SOON as I found out about this months ago, I reached out to her."
She claims she has since reached out to the victim and attempted to resolve the situation.
Despite the ups and downs in her writing career, Colleen has strong support from fans who enjoy her work.
