How Is Don Omar's Health? The King of Reggaeton Revealed Cancer Diagnosis

It doesn’t matter if you’re a king or a peasant, the world’s worst diseases don’t play favorites. Don Omar is considered by many to be the “King of Reggaeton” after he rose up in the '90s in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to make it big with his 2003 debut album, The Last Don. However, the 46-year-old star shared that he’s had some major health issues lately.

As fans gather together to wish Don Omar, born William Omar Landrón Rivera, well, we can’t help but worry about him. While he started bringing us major hits in the 2000s, Don is still making music today, and we are not ready for that to stop! So what’s going on with his health and recent cancer diagnosis?

Don Omar shared a health update in that he’d been diagnosed and cured of cancer.

On June 17, 2024, Don shared a post on Instagram to give his fans an update before going into a life-changing surgery. “Yes, today but tomorrow I will be cancer-free. Good intentions are well received. See you all soon. #f---cancer,” he wrote in Spanish on Instagram. The photo showed off his Orlando Health hospital bracelet, suggesting he’d be going into surgery.

Several other Latinx stars and musicians commented to wish him well. Justin Quiles wrote, "Stay strong, Don. God's blessing is with you." Gente de Zona commented, "Brother we are with you and praying for you. We love you."

The following day, on June 18, 2024, Don posted a celebration photo regarding the success of his surgery. He wrote, “I woke up today cancer-free and grateful. Thank you for your good wishes, prayers, and thousands of messages. My surgery was a success, now to recover.”

While it’s unclear exactly what kind of cancer Don had or how long he had it, the fact it could be surgically removed is a good sign. If not caught early enough, cancer can spread throughout the body, shutting down various organs in its latest stages. But even before that, if it spreads too much, it’s impossible to surgically remove.

It’s also unclear as to whether Don had to undergo any sort of chemotherapy, but for now, he seems to be happy, healthy, and cancer-free!

Don Omar will hopefully make more music after his experience.

As Don moves forward from this health scare, his fans eagerly await new music and performances. His journey through this challenging time has only strengthened the bond between him and the audience. It’s clear that his influence extends beyond music, as he continues to inspire and uplift those who follow his career.

In fact, his last album from 2023 was titled Forever King, the perennial title of which may have been a nod to his cancer journey. Every new experience for an artist can be an inspiration, so we might see a change in Don’s life and sound going forward.
