The Doodle Challenge on TikTok Makes Your Brain Hurt

Since lockdown and stay at home orders began, there have been all kinds of challenges that have been floating on the Internet. Most of these challenges have been created and gone viral thanks to the mega-popular social media app, TikTok. These challenges range from hitting your boyfriend in the head with your purse to intricate dances to Beyonce to something as simple of drawing a doodle.
The goal of these, at times ridiculous challenges is just to keep us all occupied during this very weird time in history. In the past, there have been challenges pertaining to fashion, food, and dance among others.
Recently, it’s impossible to not scroll on TikTok and not see people trying out the Doodle Challenge. Simple and silly, the Doodle Challenge just requires you and a friend (though it’s a lot funnier with multiple people) and some mediocre art skills.
The Doodle Challenge on TikTok is a mix of Pictionary and the game of Telephone.
So first, think of how to play Pictionary. You think of a word or phrase and do your very best to draw that so your teammates can guess whatever you were trying to sketch. Then, introduce the concept of the classic game, Telephone.
In the game of Telephone, the first person in the line or circle whispers a word or phrase into the ear of the person sitting or standing to their right. Then players whisper the phrase to their neighbors until it reaches the last player in line who says the phrase out loud. The conclusion of the game typically results in a phrase totally different from the original, which can make for some good laughs.
You only need one other person to do the Doodle Challenge.
The Doodle Challenge requires at least two participants. As a part of this challenge, a sheet of paper is put on one person’s back and the other person is free to draw whatever he or she wants to. On the other hand, the second person needs to recreate the same figure that the person is drawing on his or her back by recognizing the movement of a pen or pencil.
Some of the funniest results from the Doodle Challenge have been from TikTok users who have had large groups try and do the challenge. The more people who participate, the more ridiculous and off the image ends up being from the original.
The challenge has also gone viral on Instagram.
Just to prove the virality of something that gets popular on TikTok, the Doodle Challenge is also hard to miss on Instagram. The challenge has crossed over social media platforms and spread. On TikTok, the hashtag #doodlechallenge has 73.3 million views.
From Puerto Rico to France to India, TikTok creators from all different countries are trying their hand at some artistry. Some of the results at the end are actually pretty impressive, while some other results from the Doodle Challenge look like a work of very abstract art.
