First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby with a baby carriage. This saying is one that we’ve all said in our childhoods at some point in time. The popular phrase highlights the importance of traditional relationships building a solid foundation with a partner before marriage and expanding your family. However, some folks prefer to take a modern approach and do things a bit differently, including Ethan Payne and Faith Kelly.
If the couple sounds familiar, that’s because they are hosts of the podcast Growing Paynes. Additionally, Ethan is one of four co-founders of the British YouTube group Sideman. Ethan and Faith have been a couple for quite some time, so it isn't a surprise that marriage is now a factor. However, the pair seems to have a few things to figure out before jumping the broom. Here’s the scoop.
Ethan Payne and Faith Kelly’s relationship timeline dates back to 2021.
Per GlamourBuff, Faith was first featured on Ethan’s Instagram page in June 2021, although the exact date of when they started dating is unknown.
On June 8, 2021, Faith followed suit and took to Instagram to share a selfie with Ethan posing in the mirror.
“Rumor has it? My love,” Faith captioned the photo.
From there, the back and forth on social media continued with the pair sharing countless photos and videos of one another.
Interestingly, 11 months into their coupledom, Ethan and Faith announced on Instagram that they were expecting.
“Making a baby challenge (gone right),” Ethan captioned the photo that shows him holding a photo of a sonogram and Faith with a small baby bump.
Ethan and Faith swiftly transitioned from a couple into being parents to Olive Ottilie Payne in September 2022.
“What a weekend. Welcome to the world, Olive Ottilie Payne. My heart couldn’t be more full. I am beyond proud of @faithlouisak for everything. Women are superheroes.”
Since then both Ethan and Faith have shared photos of their little family for fans and loved ones to engage with.
Ethan and Faith aren't seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to taking on Ethan’s surname.
It’s important to be on the same page before stepping into holy matrimony. On a September 2023 episode of Growing Paynes, which was shared via TikTok on Sept. 22,2023, on the DailyPaynes page, the pair gave viewers some insight into their feelings about taking a last name.
Faith proceeded to tell viewers that Ethan refused to propose to her since she wanted to take Ethan’s surname while also keeping her own. In essence, she wants to hyphenate her last name.
“Faith doesn't want to take my name and that irks me,” Ethan said.
“No, I want to take your name, I just want to take mine as well,” Faith clarified. “I don't want to lose my association with my family. So let me keep it then.
Interestingly, Ethan wouldn’t budge on his decision, but neither would Faith.
“'It's a personal thing, I've grown up with it my whole life, I like it, I wanna keep it,” Faith added.
However, Ethan shared that he has a traditional mindset when it comes to relationships and believes that this is “how it should be done.”
Although Faith tries to give examples of other wives who have hyphenated their names, Ethan’s mind is set.
“The conditions are, if you want to be my wife, then be my wife,” Ethan said while adding that Faith keeping her last name is her “'bottling it' and only “half" being his wife.
What do you think? Is it a big deal to hyphenate your name when married? Should a wife solely take her husband’s last name? Let’s discuss.
