The Mindy Project alum Fortune Feimster is off the market. She and Jacquelyn Smith got married at an intimate-feeling wedding ceremony held in Malibu, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020. As she revealed in a newly published interview with People, they opted for a smaller gathering out of concern for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Fortune Feimster and Jacquelyn Smith got married on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020.
The couple started to plan the wedding in March 2020, around the same time as the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions were put in place.
The global healthcare crisis brought their plans to a screeching halt — and they only started to re-evaluate their decision to postpone the ceremony once the news about Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court got out.
As Fortune told People, the growing number of discussions concerning Obergefell v. Hodges — the civil rights case that saw the legalization of same-sex marriage — partially fueled their decision to bring the wedding forward.
"I'm not going to lie, there were some nerves about the Supreme Court. After Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, all these people started talking about gay marriage again. On the first day of their session, two of the justices brought up gay marriage," Fortune told People.
"Who knows what will happen? Hopefully, marriage equality is here to stay. But we wanted to be more proactive and get married while we know we can," Fortune added.
Fortune and Jacquelyn eventually opted for a beautiful beachside ceremony with their closest friends.
As the star told People, they rented a house in Malibu, Calif. with enough space for guests to talk to each other comfortably without having to worry about contracting the coronavirus (COVID-19). With the backyard overlooking the mesmerizing seaside, the couple exchanged their vows at a beautiful location, in the company of their nearest and dearest.
Fortune and Jacquelyn have been together for more than five years.
Fortune and Jacquelyn met at the Chicago Pride Parade in 2015, and the rest was history.
"But five years ago today, the day after marriage equality passed, I went to pride in Chicago and immediately met Jax. She appeared out of nowhere and it felt like I’d known her forever. She’s so awesome and such a rock," Fortune captioned an Instagram post celebrating their five-year-anniversary.

The star remained relatively quiet about her relationship with Jacquelyn — she predominantly uses Instagram to chronicle her career highlights and tease work projects — but she posts about their latest adventures now and then.
From long strolls on the beach to going on trips to much-coveted holiday destinations like Thailand, the stars have embarked on a range of positively swoon-worthy dates over the years. Fortune popped the question in January 2018, during a romantic getaway to Big Sur, Calif. after two and a half years of dating.
