The world learned that pro golfer Grayson Murray tragically passed away on May 25, 2024.
The athlete was engaged to Christiana Ritchie before he died by suicide. But following Grayson's very sad end, it's unclear to fans if he and his love were still together.
Here's what we know about the couple's relationship based on a public statement his parents made in the wake of their deeply painful loss. We'll also review what Grayson said about Christiana before his death and try to unpack their most recent status.
But most importantly, we wish his family, Christiana, his friends, and fans much comfort as they deal with and heal from their grief.
Did Grayson Murray and his fiancée break up prior to his death?
Let's first take a look back at Grayson and Christiana's relationship timeline.
In December 2023, the golfer shared the happy news that he was engaged. According to Marca, Grayson announced in a now-deleted social media post, "Easiest decision of my life. I love you so much babe. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. God is so Great."
Grayson was open about his struggles with mental health and alcohol addiction. However, he credited Christiana with helping him find a more positive way to move forward.
"I have a beautiful fiancée now that I love so much and who's so supportive of me," he told reporters in January 2024.
But the next steps surrounding the couple's march toward marriage are unclear. The New York Post reports that their wedding was planned for April 27 but the outlet notes that the event may not have taken place.
Furthermore, following the news that Grayson had died, his friends were reportedly still referring to Christiana as his fiancée and not his wife.
The statement Grayson Murray's parents put out about his passing hints at a possible breakup.
Unimaginably, Grayson's parents, Terry and Eric, had to release a statement about their son's suicide. In their heartbreaking remarks, one is sharply attuned to the fact that Christiana isn't mentioned.
The statement reads, "We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare."
"We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and — it seems — by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed," the statement continues.
His parents' statement concludes by acknowledging that life wasn't always easy for their son, and hoping that we can all be kind to one another in honor of Grayson.
At the time of this writing, Christiana hasn't released a statement of her own, and the status of their relationship at the end remains unclear.
