It's said that the cornerstone of a strong marriage is trust. Well, maybe in some cultures it's whether or not one partner can make sure the credit card balances are constantly paid off and the other can maintain a trophy aesthetic for social media and gatherings with friends and family members.

But for others, trust is a big factor. And trusting that your significant other isn't going to gut the entirety of your kitchen while you're away from the house, while probably not specifically stated in anyone's matrimonial vows, is probably assumed.

But this TikToker, Robin, who posts under a couples-themed account titled @tapestryofmotherhood may've wanted to include that exact verbiage in her vows with Michael, who, under an "impulse," decided to try and renovate the entire kitchen. And ... well ... things didn't turn out so hot.

The video begins with Robin covering her mouth with her hand out of what looks like shock. Her eyes widen as she walks into the kitchen until she finally decides to turn the camera around and reveal what it is she's looking at: she presents a fully gutted kitchen with sheets of plastic put up to separate the work that's going on in the kitchen area from the rest of the house.

The flooring is there — however it looks like all of the fixtures have been taken out of the area. A few more seconds reveals that the kitchen is "open" to the rest of the house and that her husband, Michael, has done a pretty clean job of putting up the plastic barrier.

"Um, Michael," she can be heard saying upon seeing his handiwork. "Yeah, hey you're home!" his voice echoes throughout the house, off camera.

"Hi," he adds, cheerfully, before coming from what looks like the living room area before unzipping the plastic partition and coming into the kitchen.

"How long were you gone???!!" someone else asked in the comments.

"So, did you ever do something so impulsively, it just turned out horrible?" he asks, walking toward the camera."

She flips it back on her face to reveal the horror that she feels in this situation.

"Or you just knew it was gonna be horrible," he continues, as she pans her gaze back and forth between him and into the lens of the camera.

"Where you just knew it was gonna be horrible. But you already had done it." He laughs, looking into the camera before telling her, "Our kitchen is gone," as she walks around and tries to take it all in. She looks back into the camera again.

"I was in way over my head," he says, before laughing again.

"What, why?" she says before he informs her that their refrigerator is in the den of the house. "I told you I was gonna do it ... you can't get mad."

She makes a face toward the camera after that last bit. "I told you that I was going to do something when I couldn't figure out what was behind this wall," he explains to his wife. "Right?"

The woman then attempts to wrap her head around what her husband is telling her: "So your solution, to not knowing what's behind the pantry wall, was to remove the entire kitchen! Did you even ... do you even ... why?" she asks aloud as he continues to chuckle.

"I'm gonna replace it," he promises her.

"Really?" she says, muffled into her hand.

"I got in over my head. I hired a guy. He's coming tomorrow."

She pans the camera over to his face. "Don't get mad," he says.

"They're building you a bookshelf," he offers.

"A what?" she asks.

"Oh I didn't tell you?" he says, after laughing again.

"Why?" she says, walking through the house.

"Well I started in here and I ended up in there," he yells as she walks toward the area he first entered the kitchen from.

"All right come on, I might as well just break it to you," he says, zipping the plastic sheet up as he heads into the living room. They walk over to the den, which appears to have also had some work done on it.

After hearing her reaction, he says that she should've expected this, given that she left him alone to his own devices and impulses. "But it looks great, doesn't it?" he says of the room, which now contains the refrigerator.

"It's gonna look great. They're coming tomorrow."

"Did you do anything to the den with the guest bed in it?" she asks him.

"No," he replies.

"Good, 'cause that's where you're sleeping," she tells him.

"Why, did my CPAP machine come?" he asks her.

"No," she says.

He laughs before it dawns on him that he's in the proverbial dog house: "What am I in trouble? Are you mad? Are we mad? I thought we wanted this," he says to her.

He sees from the expression on her face that this certainly isn't the case. He realizes, "We didn't want this." But he adds: "It's getting done now ... surprise!"

She puts the camera back on her face; she is not amused.

"Look, the dog's even afraid. Oh yeah the carpet guy's coming next week. He's gonna do the hallway."

"OK," she says quietly. "OK," she repeats again as she walks away from him, covering her mouth. He mentions something about their bedroom, but she yells to him, begging him to "stop talking."

"I love you," he says at the end of the video right as it closes.

Folks who saw her video commented that they thought her husband had "golden retriever energy" and that they wouldn't have been able to stay angry with him.

How would have you reacted if you came home only to see that your significant other changed the entire interior of your home?
