In 2024, Jaylen Brown is already playing in his second NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics. Brown has had a remarkable career in the NBA already, and he should also be confident that, even when his NBA career is over, he'll still have plenty of other things to keep him busy.
Recently, some have suggested that Jaylen is a genius, and while that's a difficult categorization to nail down, he's certainly very intelligent. Here's what we know about Jaylen's intelligence, and about how he spends his time when he isn't on the court.
Is Jaylen Brown a genius?
Jaylen is one of the most intelligent players in the NBA, and that intelligence shows up even when he isn't on the court. In fact, since the earliest days of his professional career, Jaylen has lectured about the importance of education at schools like Harvard and MIT, which are known for educating the best and the brightest from all over the world.
Even as he was playing basketball in college, Jaylen was also focused on his studies. He took graduate classes when he was just a freshman. He was also the valedictorian of his high school class, even as he was a five-star recruit at the same time. Since the earliest part of his career, Jaylen has been equally focused on learning and improving his game on the court.
Jaylen Brown is a fellow at MIT during the NBA off-season.
While many of his NBA colleagues head to the beach during the off-season, Jaylen spends his days with the MIT Media Lab, where he's a fellow. Through MIT, he also created the Bridge Program, which gives Black people in the Boston area lessons on financial literacy and other tools to help them navigate their lives. It was through that program that Jaylen attended a class on robotics at the prestigious university.
Jaylen was in that classroom when he discovered that his agents had secured him a contract worth $304 million, which makes him the highest-paid basketball player in the league.
Jaylen's intelligence has been invaluable in his activism and has made him an important part of the Boston community even when he isn't lighting it up on the court.
Jaylen has said that one of his goals is to lessen the wealth gap in Boston. He wants to help fund the creation of a Black Wall Street in the city where Black-owned businesses can thrive. Thanks to his contract and other endorsement deals, Jaylen certainly has the money at his disposal to help fund such an initiative.
Even as he does good work off the court, though, Jaylen is also hoping to win his first title against the Dallas Mavericks during the coming NBA playoffs. Jaylen is one of the best players on the Celtics, and his contributions will be key to determining whether they can emerge victorious. Win or lose, though, Jaylen's big brain isn't going anywhere.
