Social media's favorite May-December relationship is causing quite a buzz on the internet once again, but this time under better circumstances. In December 2022, Queen Cheryl, the 63-year-old TikTok star married to 26-year-old King Quran, was the subject of a death hoax.
Although it was just a rumor and Queen Cheryl is alive and well, she recently shared a shocking update that some fans are struggling to digest.
On July 9, 2024, Queen Cheryl announced across her social media channels that she and her husband are expecting a girl. That's right! The couple is using a surrogate to grow their family. Here's everything you need to know about their family building journey.
Is TikTok star Queen Cheryl OK? Quran and Cheryl are expecting a baby!
It appears that not only is Queen Cheryl alive and well, but she is surviving and thriving. In a July 9, 2024 TikTok, Cheryl can be seen wearing a "Mommy To Be" sash with the caption, "The fact that we're having a girl got me more than excited." For those who are having a hard time deciphering what this means: Cheryl and Quran are expecting a child.
While folks were quick to comment that it isn't possible, we're here to clarify: Cheryl isn't pregnant herself, but she and Quran are expecting a child via a surrogate, according to the latest posts shared across her social media accounts.
The news first broke in May 2024 when Cheryl held up a collection of sonogram photos. Because Cheryl didn't provide much context, people immediately assumed she was pregnant. However, in June, another video came out with the text overlay reading "surrogacy update." It appears Cheryl and Quran managed to find a surrogate to carry their baby and were able to successfully conceive.
Then, on July 9, 2024, fans learned that Cheryl and Quran are expecting a girl. After an exciting gender reveal party, the sex of the baby was announced, and Cheryl seems more than thrilled to be expanding her family with a little girl.
Queen Cheryl and King Quran embarked on their journey to start a family in 2022.
According to The U.S. Sun, Queen Cheryl and King Quran (real names: Cheryl McGregor and Quran McCain) began discussing having a baby in 2022. The unorthodox couple addressed the logistics of this scenario. "We have tried for children but with age, we feel surrogacy or adoption would be a better option," Quran told the outlet in early 2022.
To no one's surprise, the old-fashioned way didn't work, so Queen Cheryl and King Quran began looking for other options.
"We prefer surrogacy. However, we have seen a lot of people embroiled in legal complications far after the child is born," Quran continued to the outlet. He went on to express concern over a surrogate not wanting to give them their baby which is why they considered adoption and in particular a "biracial baby, so he would feel that we are his true parents."
Having a baby at 63 is not unheard of but it probably takes a village. In September 2021 WANE News reported that 62-year-old Kathy Blattner gave birth to a little girl. However, it was not an easy journey. She and her husband used in vitro fertilization but the eggs were donated by her daughter (Kathy's husband is her daughter's stepfather). If Queen Cheryl and King Quran wanted to do something similar, it wouldn't be possible. Quran told The U.S. Sun that both of Cheryl's daughters had hysterectomies.
Fortunately, it seems the unconventional couple has found a solution that works for them. Regardless of public opinion about them having a child, they are both smitten by the idea and can't wait for her arrival.
