Later on, Paul shared that after the 9/11 attacks, he was so worried about Jennifer that he fell in love with her. According to People, he proposed to Jennifer before they officially started dating. He moved to New York City to live with her. Their wedding ceremony was intimate and consisted mainly of close friends and family members.

Though Jennifer and Paul's love story is swoon-worthy, she was already a mother before the pair met. Jennifer had her first son, Kai, in 1997, whom she fathered with David Dugan.

"I’m very grateful that my son has a good relationship with his father that’s very consistent, so I really support that and do everything I can to protect and nurture it. We live in New York, so we see a lot of different versions of family and it helps my son feel more comfortable with our version of our family, but he thinks of us as a family, his father and I still co-parent, even though we don’t live together,” she explained to Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

After confirming her marriage in 2003 with Paul, Jennifer and Paul welcomed Stellan in January 2003. According to People, Paul admitted that being a father made him feel like "a good human being." However, when Paul was asked about having more children, he shared, "It’s a conversation that the woman in the relationship absolutely has the upper hand in, bearing in mind that she is the one who will be going through an enormous amount of pain in childbirth."

In 2011, Paul and Jennifer welcomed their first daughter, Agnes, in 2011. Jennifer shared, "Becoming a mother has made all the difference in terms of learning to take more responsibility for myself and my life. Parenthood changed the way I do everything. The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives. To me, that's enough," per People.
