Singer/songwriter/guitarist/normcore icon John Mayer has a talk show on Instagram. It's called Current Mood with John Mayer, it's got Lisa Frank-made graphics, it's in its third season, and people love it. He broadcasts the show weekly, nearly every Sunday night at 11 p.m. What does a talk show on Instagram hosted by John Mayer look like? I'm glad you asked.

John Mayer's Current Mood talk show is just like any other talk show... except it's on Instagram.

The show goes out on IGTV and includes, according to Cheatsheet.com, "comedic bits complete with note cards," interviews with celebrity guests, and musical performances.

Mayer literally films on his iPhone in his living room "with a homemade backdrop complete with stuffed animals hot-glue-gunned to a poster board." Each episode is about 45 minutes long and he's had guests like Andy Cohen, Maggie Rogers, Dave Chappelle, Gig Hadid, and David Spade.

The episodes are available on Instagram for the 24 hours after it's broadcast, but then lots of fans upload them to YouTube, so you can go back and watch older ones. It's actually kind of charming and fun!

According to Variety, Mayer said once on Instagram, "The show started as a way to fight my own loneliness, and maybe help some other people fight theirs." At the end of the first episode, which aired toward the end of 2018, he says, "Part of me wanting to do this show is to bring people back to a more human tradition of hearing someone talk, believing what they're saying, being put at ease [and] made to feel OK," according to Cheatsheet.com.

"So set aside some time to be truthful and kind. The world around you is beautiful. The world that is downloaded from the big mother brain in the sky as contributed by millions of people... that's tiring. We all have to live in there, but let's live outside the Matrix as well," he says. "God bless you, I love you, have a good week."

Current Mood isn't John Mayer's first foray into television.

Wayyyy back in 2004, when we were all newborn infants, he had a two-part TV special called John Mayer Has a TV Show. Before his shows, he would dress up in a bear costume and walk around the parking lot interviewing fans who had no idea that it was him, John Mayer, in the costume, interviewing them about going to see John Mayer perform.

He's always been interested in TV and being a personality on screen as well as on stage. In 2015, he guest-hosted The Late Late Show three times. He's a funny and fun personality on screen, and he's also not afraid to get real with his guests. Sometimes he and his guests talk about silly stuff, and sometimes they get real about what it is like to live life in the public eye and to constantly be scrutinized by those around you.

Current Mood with John Mayer airs on Instagram Sunday nights at 11 p.m. Make sure you follow @johnmayer to catch the next episode.
