In March 2024, Bravo's The Real Housewives of Potomac fans were playing fashion police and judging the cast's Season 8 reunion looks. One of the breakout outfits was The Grande Dame herself, Karen Huger. On social media, Karen received praise in her comments for eating her castmates up in a Toni Maticevski elegant dress with her signature blonde hair in an updo.
One day after the cast's reunion looks dropped, Karen was in the news for something deeper than her fashions. The DMV OG was charged with a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) and a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated/Impaired) in a high-speed car crash.
Thankfully, Karen is doing OK and didn't suffer any severe injuries. However, the crash resulted in Karen's beloved Maserati being totaled at the scene.
Karen Huger’s beloved Maserati often appeared on ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ before getting totaled.
Karen has often flaunted her wealth during her time on RHOP. In Season 3 of the reality show, Karen introduced the ladies to her stunning 2017 black Maserati. The car was often a part of Karen's scenes, as she drove around delivering shade to Gizelle Bryant and anyone else who crossed her. Unfortunately, Karen's Maserati was a casualty of her car crash.
According to Page Six, a a representative for the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland told TMZ she was driving "too fast for the conditions" of the road that day and "struck a median and a crosswalk sign at an intersection before slamming into a parking sign off the roadway." The crash caused the airbag in Karen's car to go off. The damages to Karen's car were reportedly so severe she couldn't drive it anymore and had to have a tow truck take it away.

Although Karen will be without her Maserati, the Bravolebrity is safe and sound, which is what's most important. Additionally, Karen wasn't in the car with anyone during the crash.
On March 20, she released a statement to TMZ sharing what led to her car crash in her own words. She said the loss of her mom, Georgia Raines Wooden, who died in November 2017, sparked her to drive in such an "emotional state."
"Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience," Karen shared. "I am still in shock from last night's incident but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mother's Day approaching, it has felt more like a tsunami."
"Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics," she added. "I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I'm hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive!"
The ‘RHOP’ OG wasn’t arrested for her role in the crash despite receiving a DUI and "citations."
According to a Montgomery County Police representative, Karen was driving her car in an "aggressive manner," leading to the crash. The "aggressive" driving was reportedly due to Karen's emotions and her allegedly being under the influence.
In addition to her DUI and DWI, Montgomery Police charged Karen with multiple citations ranging from $50 to $510. Page Six also reported that Karen would have to make several court appearances, though she hasn't been arrested. Karen addressed her citations in her statement to TMZ. She confirmed she "did receive citations" and said, "one of which was unrelated to the incident, which is understandable."
However, she said the most shocking moment was realizing the car that almost hit her "drove away." While discussing the crash's impact, Karen remained grateful and warned her fans about the dangers of driving in a negative "emotional state." She also "stressed" the importance of always driving with a seatbelt and declared doing so saved her life.
"I would like to stress that it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving," she begged. "And may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts. My Mother may be my Guardian Angel, but the seatbelt saved my life."
We're glad the Grande Dame is doing OK and seemingly learned several important lessons!
