“I Want to Be the Provider but You Pay for Your Own Bill” — Woman Records First Date From Hell

TikTokers are baffled and outraged by this conversation a woman recorded between herself and her date, regarding the subject of marital relationship dynamics.

In her TikTok video, Alexus (@alehxus) can be heard attempting to understand the man's point of view when it comes to financial responsibilities in a marriage. It sounds like the man doesn't want his future wife to work, but also doesn't want to provide for her monetarily either and that he's only willing to get her the "basics" — which doesn't even include going out with her friends to get a cup of coffee.

"So like how do you, how do you expect to have like a wife and kids yet you don't wanna like really provide, yet you don't want her to work?" she asks the man as her phone records the audio of their conversation, capturing visual of what looks like a napkin and plate stained with gravy.

There's a slight pause for a few seconds before the man's voice can be heard: "Well I just think that she should find her own way to make her money. Like, for example, the government steals everybody's taxes, find a way to take your money back from the government."

He apparently believes that women who want to raise a family need to devise ways to steal tax dollars from the United States Government / Internal Revenue Service as primary sources of income and if they can't do that, then they "deserve" to be homeless.

"If you can't do that you deserve to live on the streets, honestly," he tells her.

The TikToker attempts to try and understand his reasoning: "So you want a wife and kids and you want to be the provider, you want her to be home and be a homemaker."

The man responds, "Exactly."

"But you're not gonna, you're not gonna give her spending money? Like if she needs to go get groceries."

He chimes in explaining what he's willing and interested in providing for his prospective make-believe wife.

"I'm gonna just give her the basics; if she can live off the basics, she's fine, otherwise you're just asking for too much," he replies before continuing, "the basics is Pampers, food, and clothes. That's about it, really."

She repeats the man's offers back to him: "Pampers, food, and clothes."

"Yes," he says.

"Are you gonna, is she allowed to like meet up with her friends and have like a coffee?"

"Absolutely not," the guy tells her, shutting that kind of funny business down right away, before explaining his stance further.

"She's at home, focusing on our family and that's about it. She has no reason to go anywhere else, honestly," he says.

Alexus waits a few seconds and asks him, "And you think that's OK?"

He doesn't hesitate: "Yeah, that's the way it should be, that's the way it is."

She breaks down his desires in a potential future partner even further: "So basically you want her to be a slave, just to be at home, cook, clean for you..."

"Some people might think of it like that," he tells her.

"That, that's, that's modern-day slavery, basically."

"Some people think of it like that, but you know what, it is what it is," he tells her.

She goes further into the conversation: "OK so if you don't wanna pay for those things, it's as if we were splitting the bill like we're gonna split the bill today?" she asks him.

"Yes," he tells her before the video ultimately closes out.

She explained her frustration even further in her video's caption, writing, "No because I'm still so shocked, I was so taken back that I started repeating myself, like bro who raised these men???"

Commenters were interested in finding out how Alexus managed to end up going on a date with this dude, and she explained in a follow-up video that after initially matching with him on Hinge and going back and forth with him on the app for a week and a half, he exhibited no red flags and he was extremely nice.

But ultimately, his stance on relationships threw her off.
