Mariah Carey Teased Guest Stars for Her Upcoming Christmas Special

Are you even properly celebrating Christmas if you don’t listen to Mariah Carey’s hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on repeat for the entire month of December? We don’t think so.

The song was first released in 1994 and has charted every holiday season since. In November 2019, the song won three records in Guinness World Records for one of the best-selling and most recognizable Christmas songs, most streamed song on Spotify in 24 hours, and most weeks in the U.K. singles Top 10 chart for a Christmas song. It’s safe to say that Mariah and her Christmas hit are legendary.

So, it’s no surprise that Mariah is getting her own Christmas special on Apple+. To tease the upcoming special, Mariah tweeted out a photo from what appeared to be the set of the Christmas special that featured some director-style chairs with some initials on them. Since then, fans have gone wild trying to guess who the special guests could be.

According to Variety, the special will combine music, dancing, and animation. “It will be driven by a story about bringing the world together. It will premiere on the heels of the 25th anniversary of Carey’s iconic holiday anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It will feature Carey and a lineup of surprise guest appearances,” the outlet reported.

Mariah Carey is set to be an executive producer for the special along with many other producers from the production company Done + Dusted. Variety also reported that BAFTA Award winner Hamish Hamilton and Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Roman Coppola will direct the special.

Mariah sent fans into a tizzy when she tweeted a teaser photo which seems to show the set of the Christmas special along with a Christmas tree emoji. The photo features three director chairs with the initials, AG, MC, and JH.

We all know that the “MC” obviously stands for the diva herself, Mariah Carey, but what about the other initials? Mariah fans turned into detectives to try and figure out who the other chairs could be for, but we think it’s pretty obvious.

From first glance, it seems pretty obvious that the initials stand for fellow divas, Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. However, that didn’t stop other fans from making some pretty funny guesses about who the special guests could be.

One fan wondered if Ariana Grande was too obvious of a guess and wondered if another famous Christmas singer, Amy Grant, could be the “AG.” They wrote, “Ok...So, it's a Christmas production.. MC (Mariah Carey), JH (Jennifer Hudson).. AG..??? I can only think of Amy Grant (cause it's Christmas), OR Ariana Grande (cause she is what is relevant in today's music world).. Let's see..”
