Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers for Season 1 of Maxton Hall – The World Between Us.

Certain shows can truly tap into our souls and Maxton Hall – The World Between Us is one of them. The Prime Video series follows Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) as they attend the fictional Maxton Hall private school. The series is based on a book in which the two protagonists follow the classic enemies-to-lovers arc.

Even though the basic premise has been told thousands of times before, Maxton Hall finds ways to keep the story fresh and engaging. Add in the challenge of subtitles because it isn't an English series, and it’s truly a marvel that Maxton Hall has grown as popular as it is. Now that it’s over, fans are wondering if there will be a Season 2 and how they can read the book in the meantime.

Amazon officially renewed ‘Maxton Hall’ for Season 2 shortly after the Season 1 premiere.

If you've already binged Season 1 of Maxton Hall, you'll be pleased to hear that Amazon has green lit the series for a Season 2. In a May 27 press release, Amazon announced the second season will welcome back Damian and Harriet as James and Ruby, and will be based on Mona Kasten's Save You.

Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger after James’s mother suddenly dies. He runs to Ruby’s house, but thinking about her happy family and charmed life, he decides to leave instead of going inside. As Ruby then looks out the window, just missing him, the rest of us watching at home are devastated for both of them.

There is more to James and Ruby’s story in the books, so we’re eager for a Season 2. With 98 percent of Google users rating the show positively and a high online search presence, we aren't surprised that Prime Video has decided to renew Maxton Hall for a second season, with filming reportedly expected to begin in summer 2024.

‘Maxton Hall’ is based on Mona Kasten’s German novels, so German is the predominant language in the show.

After Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2020, we’ve seen an uptick in foreign-language films and series entering the mainstream. “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films,” Parasite director Bong Joon-ho famously said about foreign-language films.

This has been proven true, from projects like Netflix’s Squid Game, which is in Korean, to Ragnarok, which is in Norwegian. But foreign language can also transcend drama — there’s no reason it has to be specific to the situation at hand, like in the former examples. Because the original Maxton Hall series is written in German, it only makes sense to bring it to life in its native language.

The first season is based mostly on the first book of the series, Save Me. As expected, Season 2 will be based on the next book, Save You, and ideally, Season 3 will be based on the third book, Save Us. However, unlike the English subtitles, there’s no English translation of the book series.

Fans would love to read the books while waiting for another season of Maxton Hall to come out, but for those who don’t speak German, we don’t have that option yet. However, because of its popularity among American viewers, we’re expecting an American or English publisher to take on Maxton Hall ASAP so that we can at least continue reading the story to find out what happens next.
