The Los Angeles Dodgers are a force to be reckoned with in 2024 thanks to the prowess of two-time World Series winner Markus Lynn “Mookie” Betts. But on June 16, 2024, he got hit by a pitch in a game against the Kansas City Royals, which could be a potentially season-ending injury. As he heals at home, fans are wondering who’s supporting him.
Mookie Betts has been a household name in baseball ever since he came up with the Boston Red Sox in 2014. He became the first MLB player to win MVP, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, batting title, and a World Series in the same season, among other impressive baseball records. But now that he’s healing from a broken arm, we want to know about his wife and kids.
Mookie Betts met his wife, Brianna Hammonds, in middle school.
As if Mookie Betts couldn’t get more lovable, he has the fairy-tale love story we’ve all dreamed of at one point or another. He met his now-wife, Brianna Hammonds, when they were just 13 and 14 years old. Brianna’s late friend had a crush on him, so Brianna tried to get them on a date. But a few weeks later, Mookie asked Brianna out instead.
"I’m thinking, You get one shot,” he said to Ebony. “I only have but so much courage, I’m pacing in my room and thinking, I ain’t asking again. I don’t know what [made] me ask again," he explained. "She said yes and my MySpace status changed." The two have been together ever since.
Mookie Betts has two kids with wife Brianna.
The couple welcomed their first child, Kynlee Ivory Betts, on Nov. 6, 2018. Mookie didn’t propose to his longtime girlfriend, however, until 2021, with an elaborate secret proposal in a celebration with 40 friends and family members. "Winning another World Series was great, but putting a ring on my MVP is the real blessing! I am a blessed man," the baseball star told People following his engagement to Brianna.
They married shortly after, in December 2021, and they even had their rehearsal dinner at Dodger Stadium. The wedding, however, was at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., with over 200 guests. Rapper Nelly even showed up at the reception to sing “Dilemma,” which is Mookie’s favorite song. And their daughter, Kynlee, was the flower girl. If that’s not a dream wedding, what is?
On April 18, 2023, Mookie and Brianna welcomed their second child, Kaj Lynn Betts. Now, Kaj is over 1 year old, so the whole family frequently attends Mookie’s games. Brianna has been supporting Mookie’s career throughout their entire relationship, and now, Mookie might be able to spend a lot more time than usual with his family during the MLB season.
