Do We Like 'Sonic: The Hedgehog's New Lewk? Well, It's Better Than Last Time
Updated Nov. 12 2019, 12:01 p.m. ET
Earlier this year, you probably witnessed the disaster that was the first Sonic movie trailer — fans were devastated to see the striking changes the CGI hedgehog had undergone since the video game was first released by Sega back in 1991.
But the new trailer for the remake is giving fans hope, as the lively blue rodent is looking much better. And if you aren't sure what I'm referring to, here's an in-depth comparison between the old Sonic vs. new Sonic... you'll see exactly what I mean.
How do we feel about old Sonic vs. new Sonic? First, let's look at the OG hedgehog for an additional point of reference.
Chances are you haven't seen the original Sonic animation in years, and it's OK — you're not alone. But once you see the bright blue little trouble-maker doing his thang, everything will definitely come back to you in a matter of minutes.

Now we're on the same page? OK, great. Let's move on to the original movie trailer, which was released earlier this year in April 2019.
In the trailer, the titular hedgehog is portrayed as a scrawny blue character in red running sneakers. His body resembled that of a very tiny human with giant, rounded eyes, giving him major puppy vibes.
It was unsettling and flat out inaccurate to the original depiction. And as you can probably imagine, the Twitterverse was totally up in arms about it.
One fan pointed out the fact that he looked like the kid who was turned into a monkey in Jumanji, while another went as far to say he resembled Tobias from The Blue Man Group in Arrested Development. Yikes.
And because of all the backlash, the moviemakers went back to the drawing board. They couldn't go through with this movie that made Sonic look like a strange, blue human-monkey hybrid.
Seven months later, they have a new mockup. And honestly, he looks pretty good.
The new Sonic looks more like the original character from the retro video game.
As you can see from the photos below, the new Sonic's eyes aren't as... dog-like? Maybe a little less pure from the previous trailer? He's far more fierce-looking, comparable to the original sneaky hedgehog we've come to know and love.
His body is a little stumpier, more animated-looking, and far less "human-like." And TBH, that looks way more accurate, in my opinion.
Fans are much happier about the new trailer.
Based on Twitter's reaction to the new trailer, it seems like fans are much more satisfied by Sonic's new ~lewk.~ Check out their reactions, below.
Like I said, the new Sonic trailer is looking far more promising than the original. The titular hedgehog is far less "cutesy," and much more mischievous, similar to the beloved video game character that has graced our lives since the '90s.
Honestly, I'm kind of getting excited for this movie now. Things are definitely looking up for good old Sonic.
