Some friends of the Real Housewives steal the show so much that you wonder why they were never asked to star on the show full-time. Eventually, those memorable wives are picked by Bravo to show more of their lives for more money.
In May 2024, Shamea Morton went from a famous friend to a full-time member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Shamea’s promotion came after Bravo decided RHOA needed a cast shakeup, and she intends to do just that.
In addition to being Porsha Williams’ best friend, Shamea is a radio host, media personality, mom, and wife. Ahead of the show’s Season 16 premiere, she and her husband, Gerald Mwangi, were involved in Porsha and Simon Guobadia’s very public divorce.
Who is Shamea Morton’s husband, Gerald Mwangi?
Shamea has been part of the RHOA universe since Porsha’s first season, Season 5. While her role was always as a friend, her milestones became part of her storyline. In Season 10, she and Porsha briefly fell out after Porsha couldn’t attend her friend’s wedding to Gerald in Nyeri, Kenya, in 2017.
Shamea and her husband began dating in 2014. In a 2017 interview with The Daily Dish, she said they met at the Rose Bar nightclub in Atlanta on a chance outing. However, they didn’t consider becoming romantic until they met again at a cookout at Gerald’s house. As luck would have it, one of his relatives was Shamea’s friend. She would later find out their meeting was Gerald’s plan all along.
“We go to his house for that barbecue, and we have not stopped talking since," Shamea said. "My girlfriend says he threw this barbecue just to meet [me]: 'This is just for you so you can have a conversation with him.' We had such a great time."
What does Gerald Mwangi do for a living?
According to Gerald’s website, the new house-husband of Atlanta is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business leader. Originally from Kenya, he moved to the U.S. at 18 and earned a BSC in Construction Engineering Management at East Carolina University Greenville, N.C. After graduation, Gerald started in the workforce at CompUSA as a project manager for their HVAC Mechanical Building Construction Division.
Gerald has since worked with “numerous nonprofit organizations” throughout his career.
However, those following him on social media won’t see him flexing his fortune on his page, though his wife doesn’t seem to mind.
In May 2024, Shamea and Gerald threw a party at their stunning Atlanta home for Shamea’s birthday. The RHOA star’s hubby gifted her a Rolls Royce during the party. After she shared the video, Porsha’s ex, Simon, commented on the gift and said the luxury car was something she and Porsha no longer have in common.
“Congratulations, my good sis [Shamea Morton],” he wrote. “I’m so happy for you. My brother Gerald has excellent taste in fine [automobiles]. Look forward to watching the only cast member with a [Rolls Royce].”
Simon’s post hinted that he sent Porsha’s Rolls Royce back after gifting her one in 2022. Porsha responded to her spouse’s shade with a comment she posted under The Neighborhood Talk’s screenshot of Simon’s comment.
“Simon, don’t forget and a debt-free husband who is a US citizen!! My bestie is winning … Welcome to the RHOA Queen Mumbi!”
How many kids do Shamea and Gerald have?
Shamea and Gerald are the proud parents of two daughters, Shya and Shiloh. Shya was born on Nov. 25, 2018. In February 2023, the V103 host and her husband welcomed Shiloh via surrogate. The surrogate, Shadina Blunt, was also Kandi Burruss’s surrogate for her youngest child, Blaze Tucker.
While Shamea enjoys showing her family’s lavish lifestyle, she’s also unafraid to show their challenges. In February 2023, days after Shiloh’s birth, Shamea shared on Instagram and with Essence that her infant daughter had to undergo surgery for breathing issues and was placed in the NICU.
Shiloh was later diagnosed with choanal atresia, which is a congenital condition involving a narrowing of the rear of one’s nasal cavity.
Shamea tirelessly updated fans on Shiloh’s condition online. In May 2023, Shiloh was brought home. When RHOA returns for a new season, fans will see more of the Mwangi family’s lives.
