Sherri Papini Doesn't See Her Children Very Much but Her Boyfriend Has Two Sons of His Own

Two years after Gone Girl was adapted into a motion picture starring the absolutely delightful Rosamund Pike and the eternally sad Ben Affleck, life imitated art. Distractify previously reported on Sherri Papini who would be dubbed the real-life Gone Girl by the media. In November 2016, she disappeared from her home in Redding, Calif., while out for a run. Her husband Keith Papini was the first to alert authorities and. like Affleck's character, begged the public for any information.

When she reappeared three weeks later, Papini was injured and armed with a wild story about two Hispanic women holding her hostage. Two years later DNA evidence that linked her ex-boyfriend to the crime caused her story to unravel. It turns out he was just helping her hide, and Papini was quickly arrested and charged with lying to federal agents. After she served eight months in prison, Papini's life looks drastically different. That includes how often she sees her own children.

In April 2022, CNN reported that Keith filed for divorce from Papini less than two weeks after she confessed that the kidnapping was a hoax. She had already been lying to him and their two children for nearly six years and the stress of that was difficult to deal with. "We, both children and I, need time to recover and stabilize," said Keith in the court documents. He went on to say that protecting his children from Papini's newfound notoriety was his primary focus.

Keith was granted temporary custody of their children during the couple's divorce proceedings, said the Independent.

According to a June 2024 report in the Daily Mail, Sherri is living in a four-bedroom home in Orland, Calif., paid for by her boyfriend, a widower by the name of Shawn Hibdon. As of the time of this writing, Papini gets supervised visits with her children that are not to exceed one hour, per the Record Searchlight, but her goal is to bring the kids to her new home to live with her.

The 41-year-old Papini and 49-year-old Hibdon arrived separately from her most recent court date regarding custody of her two children. In September 2021, Hibdon's wife Brittany unexpectedly passed away leaving him and their two sons devastated. A source told the outlet that Papini and Hibdon's relationship started before Papini went to prison in September 2022.

Records obtained by the Daily Mail show that Hibdon purchased her four-bedroom house under an LLC named 33 TEN Properties. Hibdon, who owns a car dealership, bought the $755,000 house that Papini pays $500 a month for, to use as a rental property. In a previous court filing, Papini claimed she was broke and attempted to force Keith to pay her $30,000 in legal fees. By all accounts, she is seemingly doing a lot of work to keep her assets a secret, including not driving a brand-new Jeep SUV to and from the courthouse.
