Stone Cold Steve Austin Has a "Perfect Margarita" Recipe and It Really Is the Bottom Line

When he isn't pounding Whataburgers and drinking beer, apparently, Stone Cold Steve Austin is crafting the perfect margarita. The WWE legend is known for his fiery personality, which is probably why First We Feast decided to feature him on a recent episode of Hot Ones, the show where guests are asked questions and eat increasingly spicy chicken wings.
On the episode, the Texas Rattlesnake revealed that he doesn't just pound brewskies, but that he also loves margaritas — and he makes a mean one.
This isn't the first time Steve Austin imbibed non-beer related alcoholic beverages on camera. A few years back, he went on camera for BuzzFeed to drink fancy cocktails for the first time and give his opinion. As it turns out, he doesn't mind drinks that would make an appearance on Sex & the City.
What is Stone Cold Steve Austin's "perfect margarita" recipe?
So you want to make a margarita that'll make an impression on your friends?
Maybe the same kind of impression that Stone Cold makes at any WWE event when the familiar sound of glass breaking and heavy guitar and bass riffs reverberate throughout an arena? Well lucky for you, he dished out the step-by-step process to make the tasty beverage and it honestly sounds delightful.
He calls his drink the "Broken Skull" margarita, which is simultaneously appropriate and horrifying, but don't let the name scare you away from slamming these bad boys down.
Here's how to make it:
First, you're going to need to grab yourself a shaker. What?! I said you're going to need to grab yourself a shaker.
Then you're going to pour three ounces of Patron Silver into said shaker.
But what if Patron silver isn't your jam and you want to go a little fancier? Stone Cold says that's fine, but he does make a good point:
"You can go a higher-grade tequila that’s gonna be a lot smoother, but you’re gonna need a little bit of bite in that margarita,” he tells host Sean Evans.
And besides, if you're drinking something called a "Broken Skull" margarita, it should have a little oomph to it, right?
Then take 1.5 ounces of triple sec, and then 1-1.5 ounces of juiced limes. But the key here is not to use pre-bottled lime juice. Yes, it's simpler. Yes, it's cleaner and less labor intensive, but as the WWE icon says, bottled lime juice "is a piss poor substitute." And it really is, you're way better off going for the real thing.
He went off further on bottled lime juice, saying that it's where most bartenders mess up: "Most of the time if you go to a restaurant, they give you something that tastes like limeade, and it just kills you. No can do. That’s the biggest mistake that rookies make, or bartenders that don’t know their s--t with the margarita."
Then, you're going to want to drop in a smidge of agave, to help cut the salt and bite of the tequila. Shake all of those ingredients up and pour it into a classic, lowball glass, with ice, not the mixing kind, and salt the rim. If you really wanna get crazy with it, splash an ounce of Grand Marnier on top and you've got yourself the best dang margarita in the world.
Remember, the margarita needs to be shaken together and not stirred, so Stone Cold's a lot like James Bond in that regard. He tells Evans:
"Each one you drink is a triple, so by the time you drink two that’s six shots of tequila. Now I’m not good, but you would be good." Man, I wanna drink margaritas with Stone Cold.
So while you're following the recipe below, watch the Hot Ones clip above and sit back and enjoy your tasty beverage while Stone Cold enjoys his spicy wings. Sounds like a wonderful start to an evening if you ask me.
