Fans can't get enough of The Walking Dead. Fear the Walking Dead, which is the franchise’s first spinoff, is the prequel that follows the lives of those before the zombie apocalypse hit and how they dealt with it when it once it spread.
The Walking Dead focuses on how communities survive throughout the infestation while the upcoming spinoff follows the life of adolescents who were born into the apocalypse and have known only that their whole life. Here’s everything you need to know about the third adaptation of The Walking Dead.
Women dominate the world in the third series of The Walking Dead.
The new currently untitled spinoff follows two leading women as they navigate through the world after the zombie outbreak. They are meant to be the first generation to grow up in a zombie infested planet.
AMC shared, “The third series in a franchise that includes the global hit series The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever, grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
This is a big step forward for The Walking Dead franchise as they’ve sadly gotten rid of a few of their younger cast on The Walking Dead.
Who can we expect to see in the new series?
While we will be seeing a mainly younger cast throughout the new series, there will be different age groups as well. Here’s who they’ve confirmed so far!
How to Get Away with Murder’s Alexa Mansour has been confirmed as one of the show’s lead protagonists named Hope. Teen actor Nicolas Cantu will also make an appearance on the show’s second spinoff as Elton. He has made a big impression with viewers on The Good Place, Sofia the First, and The Amazing World of Gumball.
Other notable cast members will include Annet Mahendru who will play Huck, Hal Cumpston as Silas, and Aliyah Royale as Iris.
Nico Tortorella is the latest addition to the franchise.
Younger’s Nico Tortorella is the most recent star to hop on The Walking Dead train. Nico will play Felix, who is described to be a very noble character. Apparently, Nico will be an honorable addition who will fight to save the others. Hopefully this doesn’t foreshadow an early departure for the character.
Luckily, Nico’s participation on the show won’t interfere with TV Land’s Younger which was recently renewed for a seventh season. Nico is also a writer and has also made appearances on The Following and The Beautiful Life.
When can we expect a release date?
AMC will continue to produce the show. The untitled series will begin to film its first season composed of 10 episodes this summer in Virginia. The third adaptation of The Walking Dead is set to launch Spring 2020 on AMC.
