Summer is right around the corner, and what better way to welcome it than with a sweet treat? Better yet, why not take the experience a step further by dedicating it to someone special in your life, like your grandma?
Starting May 21, McDonald's is introducing the Grandma McFlurry! According to the fast-food chain, McDonald's is the place where "lifelong memories" are made with grandma, making this summer the perfect occasion to honor her and make her feel truly special.
I had the opportunity to taste-test this new McFlurry flavor, and now I'm excited to share my thoughts with you. While I'm not a culinary expert, I do have a love for ice cream. So, without further ado, here's my take on McDonald's limited-edition Grandma McFlurry.
We tried McDonald's Grandma McFlurry — and it's tasty!
To kick off the celebration, McDonald's rolled out Grandma's McFlurry Mobile — their first-ever take on the beloved ice cream truck — on Friday, May 17. It offered fans a free first taste of the Grandma McFlurry before its official release in restaurants. Eager to try it out, I made my way to the truck to taste the Grandma McFlurry!
Now, you might be wondering: How does it taste? Does it hit the spot? Well, I'm thrilled to report that the Grandma McFlurry is an absolute delight! While the specifics of the sweet treat's ingredients remain somewhat of a mystery, it boasts a lovely sweetness (much like grandma herself).
I'm 99.9 percent sure that the "delicious syrup" is caramel, and the "candy pieces" are likely either butterscotch or those classic hard caramels that McDonald's fondly recalls grandma always "hid in her purse." All of this is blended into McDonald's creamy vanilla soft serve, which really hits the spot when you're craving something sweet.
McDonald's wants to help fans connect with their grandmas!
OK, you might be asking yourself: What's the deal with McDonald's rolling out the new, limited-edition Grandma McFlurry? What makes it stand out? Well, apart from aiming to win back its loyal customers amid soaring fast-food prices, the chain restaurant also wants to honor the often overlooked individuals who play a significant role in shaping our lives.
"Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they're having a major moment influencing culture — inspiring trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry," Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald's, said in a press release. "The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we're excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives."
Additionally, to celebrate the limited-edition Grandma McFlurry, McDonald's is offering fans another way to connect with their grandmas. As we all know, music brings people together, especially when it presents a fresh spin on familiar songs. So, McDonald's has teamed up with two artists to remake popular songs for this occasion!
Singer-songwriter Remi Wolf is putting her own twist on the timeless hit "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)," set for release on all music platforms on May 21. Meanwhile, two-time Latin Grammy nominee and Puerto Rican sensation Jay Wheeler is crafting a unique rendition of the iconic Latin tune "Piel Canela."
Plus, in honor of the Grandma McFlurry, McDonald's will donate to Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly, a nationwide organization dedicated to aiding older adults facing loneliness and isolation.
