Part of being on TikTok is understanding that you are going to see something on the platform almost daily that doesn't appear to make any sense. The latest example of this comes with the "What Color is the Sky?" game that has become popular in some corners of the platform.
While guessing the color of the sky doesn't seem particularly fun (you should probably just know that), TikTok users have turned it into a game or meme with one another. Here's what we know about the trend and why it's circulating on the platform.
What is the "What Color is the Sky?" game on TikTok?
The game came out of a song from the Disney movie Coco called "Un Poco Loco" which features a sort of call and response. In reality, both halves of the song are sung by the same person, but it starts with the lyrics "What Color is the Sky" and proceeds from there.
Some people have taken these opening lyrics and turned them into something resembling a game.
One person starts by asking the other what color the sky is, and the other person replies by saying that it's blue. The first person then keeps asking the question until the second person catches on, and realizes that they are referencing the song and the meme that is now associated with it. Once the second person catches on, they should reply with the next lyric in the song, "Ay mi amor, ay mi amor."
From there, the two people involved in the exchange go back and forth through the lyrics until they reach the beginning of the chorus, which is where the trend usually ends. It's a relatively simple game, when all things are considered, but one that is nonetheless a good way to highlight a fun song and also to probably make a close friend pretty mad at you, at least until they figure out what's going on.
Here's how to play the "What Color Is the Sky?" game.
If you want to play the game yourself, it's actually relatively simple. All you need to do is think of a person who is likely to be aware of the trend, or super familiar with the songs from Coco. If you don't have anyone like that in your life, you may be out of luck.
If you do, though, you just start asking them what color the sky is until they catch on. Then, the two of you can trade the song's lyrics back and forth.
This meme is super easy to participate in, and the only real risk you run is that someone won't catch on and will just think you're the kind of annoying person who asks the same question over and over again.
And, it's an important reminder that Coco is Pixar at its best. Even if you don't want to participate in the trend yourself, you should definitely make time to watch the movie, either for the first time or the millionth.
