YouTuber Comicstorian Died in Early June 2024 — What Happened?

For over 10 years, folks have looked to Ben Potter — better known by his online moniker as Comicstorian — for the latest news and deep dives into the world of comic books. Focusing primarily on covering Marvel and DC Comics but always dipping his toes into everything that the medium has to offer, Comicstorian has posted new videos almost daily since 2014. He spoke about everything from new storylines, comic book movies, and his own opinions on any recent developments.

He would eventually go on to create his own spin-off shows and channels in which he offered his thoughts on topics like anime, television, and even worldly topics like the encroaching presence of AI and the internet at large. As of 2024, he had over 3 million subscribers on YouTube.

More than a decade after becoming a known internet personality in pop culture, however, his life came to a tragic and wildly unexpected end. What happened to Comicstorian? His grieving wife gave an update on Twitter.

Comicstorian died on June 8, 2024. The news came two days after the fact from his wife, Nathalie Potter, who posted about the tragedy using her late husband's social media. His passing was all too sudden, as he had been uploading new videos to his channel and tweeting about his upcoming content as recently as June 7.

In the emotional post, Nathalie explained that Comicstorian had passed away due to an "unfortunate accident," but didn't provide any details on what happened to him. A day later, KDVR revealed Comicstorian's cause of death as a single-vehicle car accident. The accident transpired on the morning of June 8 on southbound I-25 near milepost 267.5.

Comicstorian had been driving in his Toyota 4Runner when it veered off the right side of the interstate and proceeded to flip multiple times. While the Colorado State Patrol confirmed he had been wearing his seat belt, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, per KDVR.

Nathalie wrote on Comicstorian's Twitter, "As a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay."

Amit her emotional statement, Nathalie also confirmed that they would continue posting on his YouTube channel.

"His channel was one of his greatest accomplishments and while we all need our time to mourn him, I know he wouldn't want it to end like this," she shared. "Ben spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. It was through his life of exciting stories and well-written characters that got him started on YouTube. The team and I want to keep that going."

The news of Ben's death was met with an outpouring of condolences from fans. One user on Twitter commented, "He did so much for so many. I am absolutely gutted to hear this."

Another posted, "Comicstorian was an absolutely incredible YouTuber [who] pioneered so much and got so many people into reading comics. Devastating news."
