Most people know Sofia the First as a Disney show that has captivated young audiences and paved the way for Disney to introduce their first Latinx princess. What you probably don't know is that new fans (thanks to TikTok) have posed a very important question about the show: What happened to Sofia's dad? 

If you haven't heard of Sofia the First, here's a quick rundown: A young girl named Sofia and her mother, Miranda, live as peasants in the kingdom of Enchancia. One day, Miranda marries King Roland II, thus making her queen and Sofia, princess.

The series follows Sofia's life adjusting to the palace, including new step-siblings, James and Amber, and primary antagonist Cedric. Cedric is a sorcerer whose goal is to steal Sofia's magical amulet, which allows her to summon the Disney princess of her choosing for aid. The amulet also rewards the wearer with blessings for acts of kindness, and curses for unkind acts. 

Curious viewers have wondered since the show's beginning what happened to Sofia's biological father, and it looks like now that the show has ended, there is finally an answer. In the television special Sofia the First: Forever Royal, it is revealed that Sofia's biological father was a sailor who was lost at sea. The creator added that the character's name was Birk Balthazar.

When the show initially aired on Disney Junior, it was praised for being the first Disney show to feature a Latinx princess, which was then reported to be false. Disney did eventually amend this oversight on their part, and created the show Elena of Avalor as a Sofia the First spinoff to explicitly focus on a princess with Latinx heritage.  

If there's anything that can be said for TikTok, its users have no end to their creativity. Trends in everything from fashion to dance moves have been set by the platform. The latest TikTok craze has been putting the dialogue of children's shows in the background of really anything, and that includes the Sofia the First theme song. 

Users are getting creative with the use of the song in the background, doing everything from Princess Sofia dress-up challenges to competing in "finish the lyric" style challenges to just putting it as the background while they do something wholesome and fun. 

While this should be no surprise to anyone who lived through the "Little Einsteins Remix" phase of the 2010s, it's definitely interesting the show has resurfaced since it ended in early 2018. Perhaps this new renaissance is due to the fact that Sofia the First was just added to Netflix, or perhaps we're all just craving a bit of childhood nostalgia right now.
