What happened to Spice from ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’?

On Wed, Nov. 2, 2022, Minister Marion Hall — best known as Lady Saw — took to social media to solicit prayers for Spice.

According to rumors, Spice suffered a heart attack and was put into a medically-induced coma during a cosmetic procedure in the Dominican Republic. Minister Marion seemingly confirmed the rumors when she went live.

Although the two have been at odds for quite some time now, Marion seemed to have a change of heart after news of Spice's alleged health condition surfaced online. She said in the live video, “I pray now, deliverer.”

“It doesn’t matter what she did to me, I pray now, God. You know as I hold my hand up, I’ve never done evil to her. I have loved her, God.”

“I was there for her, God. You be there for her now.” She said, “Please, God, bring her back — out of that darkness and into your light. Let your light shine upon her God. Strengthen her God. Give her another chance.”

Her emphatic plea lead prompted hundreds of fans to send out prayers and well wishes on social media.

Amid the fiasco, several fans chimed in with their two cents. Some fans suggested that Marion’s performance on live wasn't genuine. One user wrote on Twitter, “Spice, if you're not in a coma, you need to come forward and put the crowd at ease.”

So, was Spice from ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ in a coma? Here’s a 2023 health update.

Initially, fans were told by Ray Alexander, Spice's booking agent, that she actually wasn't in a coma.

“Those are all lies. The rumors were caused by people not knowing where she was and because she hadn’t posted on Instagram,” he told DancehallMag.

However, it turns out there was some truth to all that speculation even if the conspiracy theorists didn't get it completely right. In November 2022, Spice made an emotional Instagram post detailing more about her health. She explained that she suffered from a damaged hernia that resulted in sepsis.

"Sepsis is a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection," according to Mayo Clinic.

It turns out that Spice's past cosmetic surgery work seems to be the culprit and cause of the hernia.

“I’ve had procedures done before; I did liposuction and I had a tummy tuck,” Spice explained in an Instagram live. “I was suffering from something called fibrosis, which causes you to get lumps on your belly. So, because of my past surgeries that I did before, fibrosis became a factor due to not getting lymphatic massages done.”

According to TMZ, it took a large team of doctors to save Spice's life ... 14 to be exact! Following three "chest-busting operations," Spice had to spend two months in the hospital. She spent six months in recovery.

As for the coma rumors? Her Instagram post put an official end to those rumors. However, that doesn't mean that her time in the hospital wasn't scary. TMZ reported that Spice truly thought she could be on her deathbed and prepared a will.

Thankfully, Spice seems to be doing much better both physically and mentally.

“I'm good. I'm in a better head space,” Spice told Distractify exclusively. “Well, mentally, physically, emotionally, and everything. I had a near-death experience and I don't take that lightly.”

Is Spice from 'Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta' pregnant?

In March 2023, Spice fans were shocked by what appeared to be a pregnancy announcement. She captioned the post "God has been so good to me."

No, Spice is not pregnant, so don't get your hopes up to see a mini-Spice running around any time soon. This faux pregnancy announcement was more-so to celebrate Spice's return to life after her near-death experience.

New episodes of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on VH1.
