Avid horror fans and Ryan Murphy disciples are anticipating this upcoming season of American Horror Story. The latest installment, 1984, is somewhat reminiscent of an '80s slasher movie, and I don't know about you, but I'm seriously dying to watch it.

And if you, too, are eagerly awaiting the official release of the latest season, you might be wondering, "what is American Horror Story: 1984 about?" So hang tight — I have all the deets.

What is American Horror Story: 1984 about? It's quintessential '80s.

The extended trailer was released at the end of August, and it tells the story of a group of friends that live, sleep, and breathe aerobics. Once summer rolls around, all of them want to ditch the city and work at Camp Redwood, an isolated sleep-away camp upstate.

En route to the camp, one of the guys mentions that several years ago, a serial killer named Mr. Jingles had ravaged the camp. In the massacre, several kids and counselors were murdered. Jason, is that you?

The girls in the group are clearly horrified by this shockingly unexpected anecdote, but it's all quickly brushed off. They continue driving in a somewhat uncomfortable silence, that is, until the clan's Mystery Machine-esque VW van hits someone in total I Know What You Did Last Summer fashion.

Naturally, the hair-teasing, leg-warmer-wearing exercise instructors bring the victim to the camp with them. It all seems pretty nonchalant.

Meanwhile, we see a group of detectives standing outside a mental hospital, clearly worried about something. We quickly learn that one recently rainy night, Mr. Jingles snuck out. It's all very Halloween.

Mr. Jingles is out to get the new Camp Redwood crew, and they must escape his wrath. No one is safe... especially those who decide to go off on their own, have sex, or hide in a closet. Classic slasher movie rules.

The cast is one of the season's greatest assets.

Five-time American Horror Story veteran, Emma Roberts, is going to be a main character, as is Billie Lourd, and Cody Fern. Leslie Grossman will be making an appearance one more time, and John Lynch is  — once again — playing a villain.

Olympic skier, Gus Kenworthy, is joining the cast for the first time ever, as is Deron Horton and Matthew Morrison. The cast is definitely fire, if you ask me, so get excited for some incredible acting.

Some think it might include aliens.

According to TV Guide, fans have been dying for an alien theme for American Horror Story, ever since Asylum flirted with the extraterrestrial concept.

Fans thought they would play a bigger part in Apocalypse and they really didn't. So, maybe aliens will be visiting Camp Redwood? Nobody really knows.

It seems like this upcoming season of AHS is going to be pretty stellar. Between the countless '80s horror movie references, as well as the amazing cast picks and the possibility of aliens, I'm seriously dying to see what happens.

Oh, and throwing Gus Kenworthy into the mix? You know it's going to be a sexy time.  Just make sure to sleep with the light on.
