Relax, ‘Power Book 2’ Isn’t Canceled — Here’s When It Comes Back
Updated Oct. 26 2020, 4:41 p.m. ET
One of the Starz network’s most popular shows ever, it’s no surprise that fans of the show Power are left wanting more. It wrapped in February 2020 after six successful seasons following James "Ghost" St. Patrick’s life as a part-time Fortune 500 business owner and part-time drug empire member.
There have been headlines around several spin-offs of the New York City-based crime drama’s cast members, and fans were psyched when Power Book 2: Ghost premiered in early September of 2020.
But after five episodes, the show just ... stopped as of Oct. 4, 2020.
So, when does ‘Power Book 2’ come back on?
This is the million dollar question as people freak out and speculate about the show’s cancellation. If you’re one of them, chill, because reports say the hiatus is actually a scheduled mid-season break.
Yes, the show’s plot picked back up just a few weeks after where Season 6 of Power left off. And it picked up momentum before cutting fans off to wonder why it didn’t run on Oct. 11, 2020 as scheduled — and hasn't returned since. But this was always in the production plan.
Why? Well, you can thank the COVID-19 pandemic for delays in production and airtime. But there’s good news! It’s coming back, and this year, no less.
“Starz has confirmed the series will continue in December but an exact start date has not yet been announced,” sources share.
And fans can expect five more full episodes to conclude this first season.
Expect even more ‘Power Book 2’ seasons to come.
As mentioned, the first Power series was successful from the start. The second has been even more so. And we mean, like, really successful, scoring a reported 7.5 million multi-platform views in its first week alone. This officially makes it the most-watched new series in Starz history, as Variety reports.
So it only makes sense that Starz wants to keep capitalizing on that success, and the strong attachment between fans and its characters and storylines.
In fact, this spin-off has already been confirmed for a Season 2.
"The success of Ghost right out of the gate is a tribute to the quality of [creator] Courtney Kemp's storytelling, the strength of the Power franchise and the loyalty of our incredible fans," says Starz Original Programming President Christina Davis. "It is a privilege to be able to continue the journey of Power with the audience and we look forward to delving deeper into this world in exciting new ways for many seasons to come.”
And more ‘Power’ spin-offs are on deck, too.
Given the blockbuster nature of this series, it’s no surprise that there’s more Power in store beyond Power Book 2, which means even more good news for hardcore fans.
Starz has commissioned at least three more prequel or sequel-style shows following a range of the show’s most popular characters.
Stay on the lookout for official Season 1 return dates, as well as release dates for future seasons and subsequent spin-offs.
