The first few months of 2024 have been jam-packed with exciting new game releases. January saw the release of Palworld, which went on to become a viral sensation for both good and bad reasons. February welcomed the highly-anticipated releases of both Person 3 Reload and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth within weeks of each other. In that same month, players have also been spreading democracy across the galaxy in Helldivers 2. Amid these releases, however, folks are still playing Stardew Valley.
First released in 2016, this ongoing farming simulator game places players in the roles of a character who inherits a struggling farm from their deceased grandfather. Through relaxing yet satisfying gameplay, players can bring their in-game farms to life by tending to crops, raising livestock, and socializing with the townsfolk of the fictional Stardew Valley.
The game's lifespan still persists with regular updates and Version 1.6 was just released for PC. But when is it coming to Nintendo Switch?
'Stardew Valley' Version 1.6 was released in March 2024 for PC, but what about Nintendo Switch?
Version 1.6 of Stardew Valley is the first major update that the game has received in over four years. Version 1.5 first came out on PC back in December 2020 and has received numerous minor updates within that version since. The latest version was officially released for PC on March 19, 2024. Among its many updates, the patch includes the addition of the Desert Festival in spring, a new summer event, a new farm type, and a newly added "mastery" system that grants different items and perks.
With an enormous list of changes and quality-of-life improvements now added to the game as of March 2024, non-PC players have been undoubtedly curious as to when Version 1.6 will come out for other systems such as the Nintendo Switch. The Switch version of the game was first released in October 2017, more than a year after its initial PC release.
As of this writing, the console and mobile versions of the 1.6 update are still in development. An official blog post on the Stardew Valley website states, "Console and mobile updates will follow as soon as they are ready. There is no current estimate for that, but they are actively in development."
There isn't a set release date for the patch on other systems at this time.
For reference, the aforementioned Version 1.5 came out on consoles in February 2021, approximately two months after the update came to PC. Version 1.6 will likely see a similar gap between PC and console versions, meaning we can estimate a May 2024 release for the Nintendo Switch. We'll have more news for you on its actual release date as it develops.
Stardew Valley is available on all major gaming platforms and mobile devices.
