What Happened to the Family in 'Gypsy Sisters'? The Cast Is Living a New Life

While technically off the air now, Gyspy Sisters was a TLC reality show from the mid-2010s that fans will never be able to forget. Fans can still stream the entire series on HBOMax if they want to relive the moments with the cast.
"Life as a gypsy in West Virginia is revealed through the roller coaster lives of the Stanley family," the show description explains. Kayla Williams
Kayla Williams leaned fully into the "public figure" status as she poured her heart into social media. She has been very open about her growth on TikTok. "Blowing up on TikTok y’all! I’m going for Creator Live Pro over there and here’s what consistency and determination looks like in just 28 short days! My team is unbelievable and they’re leader is taking it to the top all the way!" she wrote about her TikTok content.
In her personal life, Kayla briefly married Douglas Cooper before divorcing him. Kayla then married Benny Smalls in 2018 and lives with him and her children, Danielle, Kayla (Sissy), Richard, Lexi, and Georg in Virginia Beach.
She's also still pursuing the reality television lifestyle. Recently, Kayla advertised a show called Gypsy Matchmakers, posting a casting call for the show.
Mellie Stanley
Mellie Stanley ran into some legal trouble. She was arrested after facilitating a coupon scam at Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us. She and her then-husband managed to purchase $18,000 of items at the stores without proper payment.
She was officially arrested on charges for theft by deception, criminal possession of forged instruments, and unlawful access to a computer. After her run-in with the law, Mellie turned her focus on motherhood.
On Instagram, she proudly shows off her life with her three children. For a while it seemed like social media was a key part of her income, advertising Cameo videos, but she has been pretty quiet in recent years.
Nettie Stanley
Nettie lived a rather subdued life. After three different marriages, Nettie has nine children, Heath, Albert, Dallas, Nuckie, Destiny, Chasitie, Huey, Sheila, and Kat. Her most recent marriage to Huey Stanley seems to have stuck as they renewed their vows in 2014.
However, like her sister Mellie, she had a run-in with the law. She and Huey were arrested for conspiracy and fraudulent schemes in January 2023. After a $13,000 bail, they made bond the very next day.
Nettie has been active on social media in the years following the show. She is especially pushing her TikTok platform and advertising it on her lesser-used Instagram account. Nettie's TikTok is full of moments from her life, including with her family.
JoAnn Wells
Mellie and Nettie's sister, JoAnn, was always the more sensible one on the show. In contrast to her sister's legal issues, Mellie has been pretty quiet and low-key in the years following the show.
Annie Johnston
Yet another star with a criminal history came out of the Gypsy Sisters show. Annie Johnston was arrested for a few different felony charges. In January 2017 she was slammed with Exploitation of an Elderly or Disabled Person’s Trust.
When Annie was released, the rumor was that Mellie was the one to step in to help out. However, it turns out that TLC is actually the one who helped Annie sort the legal mishap.
Otherwise, Annie has been pretty quiet publicly. While some of the other sisters are promoting and growing their social media presence, she has stayed out of the spotlight.
