The pilot episode of the show revolves around the death of a renowned televangelist and the owner of Sunshine Network, Eugene Monreaux. Determined to get away from the monotonousness of everyday life, Eugene hops on a jet with two of his young mistresses to have some old-fashioned fun. It's only when thick black clouds of smoke start to emanate from the engine that they realize something has gone horribly wrong.

Eugene loses his life in the plane crash, but his family has no time to process the tragedy. One shock follows another as they learn that he sired three illegitimate children, Antonio, a single dad who dreams of becoming a boxer, Jason, a weed farmer, and Ginger Sweet, who owns a porn site named Sin Wagon. The narrative kicks into full gear once the heated battle for the family cash cow, the Sunshine Network, begins.

According to The Cinemaholic, the majority of the shooting took place at the St. Joseph Plantation, a sugar farm built around 1830 by the Scioneaux family.

The property changed hands a few times over the next decades. It was sold to Dr. Cazimir Mericq in 1840, who sold it on to Alexis Ferry and his wife, Josephine. In 1846 — or 1850, depending on which sources you consult — they built an adjoining plantation home, which they named "Felicity."

Some viewers might recognize the impressive building standing in the middle of the St. Joseph Foundation from movies like 12 Years a Slave or All the King’s Men. Likewise, the Felicity Foundation served as the shooting location of movies like the 2005 horror-thriller featuring Kate Hudson and Gena Rowlands, titled The Skeleton Key.
