Kel Mitchell's Wife and 2-Year-Old Daughter Are His Biggest Cheerleaders on 'DWTS'

Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars is a family affair for Kel Mitchell! Viewers may have spotted the actor’s wife and young daughter rooting for him in the audience, but we still haven’t heard much about the All That alum’s personal life on the competition series.

Here’s what you should know about Kel’s super supportive cheering section. 

The 41-year-old married second wife, rapper Asia Lee, on Feb. 25, 2012. When the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Wisdom, in July 2017, Kel gushed over the new mom on Instagram. 

"My wife is the most amazing woman; she was so strong throughout the birth. I'm so proud of her!" he wrote next to a photo of their baby girl. "[Asia Lee], you are my super woman! You amaze me everyday! Thank you for this gift!"

Kel also has two children, son Lyric and daughter Allure, from his first marriage to Tyisha Hampton. He recently celebrated Allure’s first day of college with a sweet post on social media.

"Class started today and she is officially a college student! So proud!" Kel wrote alongside a selfie of the duo. "Enjoy this next chapter, princess, you got this!"

The Nickelodeon star revealed in a past blog post that he considered killing himself around the time his six-year marriage to Tyisha fell apart. On top of their split, Kel was struggling to find acting work after his hit teen sitcom, Kenan & Kel, came to an end. 

"I felt like I’d hit a wall," he told People in a 2015 interview. "I was like, 'Okay. I need to figure out what I need to do in my life.'"

After a period of living "deep in sin," Kel leaned on the faith that was instilled in him at a young age. "I was trying to figure it all out on my own. But what I needed to do was turn to Him," he said of his relationship with God. "Once I found that clarity with Christ, I knew everything would work out."

The stand-up comedian confessed on the Sept. 23 episode of DWTS that he was having trouble concentrating because his father had been in the hospital. 

"This has been a really hard week for me because my dad had brain surgery," he told pro partner Witney Carson. "It was an aneurysm, so they had to clip it off."

Thankfully, "everything went well" for the Chicago native, but Kel got emotional when describing the pair’s "super, super close" relationship. "We’re like literally best friends. So seeing him this way, that was hard," he explained.

Kel dedicated his Week 2 dance to James, earning a 20 out of 30 from the judges. "Me and Witney, we did a lot of work. And I did this for my dad, so I love you, dad," the Game Shakers star shared after his performance.
