Why did Dr. Jennifer Ashton leave 'GMA'?

Before fans get too upset, it should be noted that Dr. Jen said on her last day that she was "always on call for GMA and ABC News, and you guys know where to find me." So that means we'll probably get to see Dr. Jen on the show in the future, just not on a regular basis.

Dr. Jen, who became known for her COVID-19 coverage during the pandemic, had a special send-off on her last show, with her colleagues playing a montage of some of her best moments over the years.

Dr. Jen reflected on her time with awe, saying, "What really stands out as I look as those 13-plus years is those moments in our country's history where together we helped people at home with insight and perspective and analysis that I think we do better than anyone in network news, here at ABC."

Lara Spencer told Dr. Jen, "You've changed the way we talk about medicine. You lifted the veil on menopause and made it a conversation that's not embarrassing at all. In fact, it's almost like a badge that we wear now and a club that we're in that's cool." She then jokingly added, "Actually it's not cool, it's quite hot, especially at night."

So the big question is, where is Dr. Jen off to next? What's her next move? Here's what we know.

In an Instagram video, Dr. Jen explained, "I think that we can all agree that right now, there’s a time like no other for good insight, interpretation and analysis for women’s health and weight loss, weight management, nutrition and obesity medicine. Since those are the areas that I’m certified in, that’s what I want to focus on, and I think there’s a massive need."

"We’ll be covering literally a full spectrum of women’s health issues from perimenopause to menopause, skin, fibroids, even some fertility issues, but really focusing on perimenopause, menopause and how that interfaces with weight management and nutrition and our food habits," she added.
