For more than a decade, the internet has been tuned in to the ongoing content of The Try Guys on YouTube. Having started back in 2014 under BuzzFeed, the Try Guys have become known for their steady content focused on a wide variety of topics such as food videos and various other internet challenges. Many of the founders of Try Guys have appeared on the channel since its inception as they propelled themselves to new heights of internet popularity. But few are more popular than Eugene Lee Yang.
Eugene has to be one of the most popular members of the Try Guys family, having been a part of it from the very beginning. Not only has he become a major internet icon, but he is also well known for his work in human rights as he contributes toward progress for both the AAPI and LGBTQ+ communities. His influence on Try Guys and beyond has certainly made an impact on internet culture, but it seems that he has his sights set on the future after his eventual departure was revealed in 2024.
Why is Eugene Lee Yang leaving Try Guys after 10 years?
In late May 2024, it was announced that Eugene would be leaving Try Guys. The reveal initially came from Rolling Stone in an exclusive interview with Eugene's fellow Try Guys co-founders Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld. According to them, this upcoming season of new Try Guys content will be Eugene's last. The group plans to continue working on their usual content as Eugene looks to pursue other forms of work.
Zach Kornfeld told Rolling Stone, "Part of this is bittersweet. We're gonna miss working with Eugene. He has been one of the true collaborators of both our lives. But we've had a long time to process this. So we're very excited for him, very excited for us, and just feeling very energized by this whole moment."
Keith added, "Eugene leaving is something that is sort of necessary for us to keep moving forward."
Along with Eugene's departure, Try Guys is actually set to expand with a bigger cast and the launch of a new streaming service called "2nd Try TV." The team hopes to provide more content to subvert YouTube's ever-changing algorithm.
For his part, Eugene is still set to appear in 2nd Try TV content as part of his final season with the Try Guys team.
Shortly after the announcement of his departure and 2nd Try TV, Eugene tweeted on Twitter. He stated, "This cast is EVERYTHING! So, so proud of these incredibly talented, beautiful people. This is the 2nd Try we always dreamed of evolving into."
We wish the best of luck to Eugene in all of his future endeavors.
