If you were ever looking for proof that anything can feel like work if you do it long enough, look no further than Tfue. The popular Twitch streamer, whose real name is Turner Tenney, announced earlier in 2023 that he would be stepping away from streaming and from gaming in general.

Following the news that Tfue, a controversial streamer who had amassed more than 11 million followers on the platform, would be stepping away from Twitch, many wondered why he may have decided to make the change. As it turns out, the answer may have something to do with the burnout that many young, hard-working people experience.

Why did Tfue stop streaming?

In a tearful 40-minute video posted on YouTube, Tfue discussed the reasons for his hiatus and also shared some footage from his first ever streams.

He explained that he hasn't had much time for a life because he's spent 6–8 hours working everyday, and added that he's still only 25 years old.

“I used gaming to kind of escape from reality,” he explained in the video. “Now I use reality to escape from f--king work. I just feel f--king kinda trapped sometimes, you know.”

Tfue then announced that he needed to take a break and thanked his fans for their understanding in the process.

"I just need to take time off, you know,” he said. He also added at the end of the video that this almost definitely wasn't goodbye forever. “I’ll be back someday," he added.

Tfue had previously courted controversy through his streams on several occasions, including by using the n-word while playing Fortnite.

Tfue never fully apologized or even acknowledged the controversy, and he has continued to command a substantial following in the years since this incident, which occurred in 2019.

As his decision to leave makes clear, streaming on Twitch as a full-time job can be incredibly demanding, even for those who are among the most followed on the platform.

What is Tfue's net worth?

Even though Tfue has stepped away from the public eye, many also wondered what the streamer's net worth was, and how well he had been compensated for his years of daily streams.

According to unverified reports, Tfue's total net worth is estimated to be somewhere around $9 million, which is nothing to sneeze at.
