During the Married to Medicine Season 10 reunion, host Andy Cohen and co. highlighted some of the most monumental moments of the long-running Bravo show. In between the clips of past cast trips and Dr. Simone Whitmore screaming into Andy's ear at each and every reunion, Dr. Simone referenced a scene from Season 1 that instantly threatened her lengthy medical career.
In part three of the M2M reunion, which aired in March 2024, Andy asked Dr. Simone if there was ever a moment in her decade-long run with the show where she felt being on reality TV could've damaged her reputation as a revered OB/GYN. Simone told Andy she only questioned it after one of the show's biggest fights Toya Bush-Harris and Mariah Huq's poolside showdown. Toya and Mariah's Married to Medicine fight was something Toya said showed Simone, "This s--t can go South."
The fight remains a part of M2M's history and followed Mariah and Toya until Mariah left the series in 2020. Here's what led to their brawl and where the former co-stars stand today.
Why did Toya and Mariah from 'Married to Medicine' fight? Here's what happened in Season 1.
Toya and Mariah were two sides of the same coin during their first season of Married to Medicine. They were both doctors' wives and had built a friendship over time. Their friendship led Mariah to confide in Toya about something she hadn't shared with her daughter, Lauren.
Mariah revealed in Season 1 that her daughter wasn't her husband, Dr. Aydin Huq's biological child. She gave birth to Lauren before meeting and marrying her husband. While Aydin and Mariah kept the news from their daughter, Mariah confided in a mutual friend of hers and Toya's. Toya repeated the news, along with other rumors about Mariah's family.
The drama between Toya and Mariah exploded during Mariah's party in Season 1, "A Black Eye Event" (I can't!). During Mariah's event, Toya decided to confront her about the tension between her and Mariah's mother, Lucy. Mariah's mother told Toya she never complimented Mariah on her wins. Toya became offended and said she opted not to argue with Mariah's mom out of "respect" for her elders. The comment upset Mariah, as she felt Toya had crossed her family one too many times.
"You've talked about me, you've talked about my child, and now you're coming up to me, to my husband's party, talking about my mama," Mariah said in a Season 1 confessional. "Really, Toya?"
The comment about Mariah's mom escalated when Toya said her mother would've never given Mariah the same treatment. After informing Toya, "That's your mama, and that's [Lucy] MY MAMA." Mariah then started touching Toya's hair, which Toya, of course, didn't take too well. After arguing in each other's faces, Toya struck her wine glass at Mariah, sparking a physical fight around the party's pool.
Are Toya Bush-Harris and Mariah Huq friends now?
Mariah and Toya's fight was an unexpected event of the night, to say the least. Many of their co-stars, including Quad Webb, who reacted with an astounding "Oh hell nooo," were perplexed by the fight. The fallout from the brawl followed Mariah and Toya into the end of the season and throughout the rest of their time filming together. In Season 9, Mariah's last season, Toya was among the cast members who felt Mariah needed to step away from the show she created in 2013.
Mariah said in a February interview with Reality With the King she felt Toya, Dr. Jackie Walters, Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Dr. Simone Whitmore, etc.'s actions in Season 9 was their way of helping the network "push" her out of her dual role as talent and executive producer. She also stated she hadn't contacted many of the ladies since exiting the show. So, for now, it doesn't appear that Mariah and Toya are friends.
For her part, Toya told The JasmineBrand in April 2021 that she and Mariah didn't have a relationship outside of social media. However, the wine connoisseur seemingly had no ill feelings towards her former sparring partner.
“We were in New York and I remember I was trying to get her to go shopping," Toya recalled of her last outing with Mariah. "That was the last time I spoke with her. It was like she just kind of disappeared…I see her on her Instagram and stuff like that. She seems to be doing well, but outside of that, no.”
While Mariah hasn't been asked to return to Married to Medicine, at least we know we won't see another epic pool fight with her and Toya if she does!
Married to Medicine is available to stream on Peacock.
