In June 2024, it was reported that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh, legally filed to drop “Pitt” from her last name. The 18-year-old wants to go by “Shiloh Jolie.”
The former couple shares six children together: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, Pax, 20, Knox, 15, and Vivienne, 15.
Shiloh’s petition to change her last name comes after years of family strain following Brad and Angelina’s 2016 divorce.
Angelina also has sole custody of their minor children. After all this strife, the question has to be asked: Why do Brad Kids hate him? Read on for the full story.
Why do Brad Pitt's kids hate him? A 2016 airplane fight may have triggered the distance.
The year 2016 was a difficult one for the Babylon actor. It was the year that Angelina filed for divorce and sole physical custody of their kids.
It was later revealed that a private plane fight was said to be the final catalyst for the couple parting ways. It was alleged that a drunken Brad got into an argument with the Maleficent star and that Brad got verbally and physically abusive with their kids. The FBI did an investigation and found no evidence of abuse.
Angelina asked that the FBI reports be released to her during her custody battle against Brad.
In the reports, Angelina claimed that Brad injured her back and elbow, grabbed her head, and hurt their children. She also claimed that Brad poured wine and beer over his family. She filed for divorce five days after the incident.
There are claims that Brad wasn’t the best father.
In 2020, the former couple’s son Pax reportedly shared a scathing “Father’s Day” post in which he called Brad an "awful human being." In a now-deleted Instagram post, the then-16-year-old shared a picture of Brad at the Oscars, along with the message, “Happy Father’s Day to this world-class a--hole. You time and time again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person.”
He also allegedly added, “You have no consideration or empathy towards your four youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence."
He continued: "You will never understand the damage you have done to my family because you are incapable of doing so.”
Brad’s other kids may have dropped his last name.
Shiloh isn’t the only one to distance themselves from their dad — or his last name. When Vivienne helped her mom produce the musical The Outsiders, she listed her name as “Vivienne Jolie” on the playbill.
Her older sister Zahara also appeared to choose a side. During a video from her university sorority, she introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
As for Shiloh’s legal change, Brad is said to be upset that Shiloh changed her last name on the day of her 18th birthday.
She also allegedly paid for the paperwork herself. A source told People that he is "aware and upset" about it.
“He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter," the source said.
"The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
