How Did Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott Meet?

Actress Zooey Deschanel announced her split from Jacob Pechenik in September 2019 but the actress took no time jumping back into the dating scene.

Her new beau is none other than Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott, and even though neither has yet to confirm that they’re together, we’ve got the proof. 

The HGTV star and New Girl actress first met while they were shooting an episode of Carpool Karaoke. In fact, on August 4, Jonathan’s brother Drew shared silly photos from behind the scenes on Instagram, which featured Zooey, Jonathan, Drew, and Zooey’s sister Emily. 

He playfully captioned the pic: "Brothers and sisters everybody sing. Quick, we need a band name for @carpoolkaraoke !!!"

Not long after Drew shared this photo, Zooey and Jonathan were seen holding hands and smiling in Silver Lake, Calif. It immediately sparked dating rumors, then one source revealed: “It’s new, but they are having a lot of fun together.” 

They were first seen hanging out on Friday, Sept. 13. Jonathan then confirmed that he was in a relationship, although he chose not to share the details. It's safe to say that he was referring to Zooey.  

He said: “I am seeing someone. I’m a very private person, so I don’t typically talk about that. It’s definitely special for me because I am the guy who raises the bar in what I’m looking for in a partner. I was caught a little off guard. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.”

Though the pair was first spotted together in September, many suspect that their romance began way before it was made public because they met earlier in August.

It turns out the pair, who share two children, had already separated for a few months before announcing that they'd be ending their four-year marriage on Sept. 6. 

In a joint statement, they said: "After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners. We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all, our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time."

The 41-year-old's most recent relationship was with producer Jacinta Kuznetsov, whom he dated for about two years. They split up in April of 2018, but the two ended on good terms. On Instagram, he shared: "There’s no drama or negativity; no jealousy or hate. Not even sadness or sorrow. Our memories are filled with joy and we will continue to advocate for each theory as friends wherever we go."

Before his relationship with Jacinta, however, he was married to a flight crew scheduler named Kelsy Ully in 2007. They were together for over seven years and married for two, but their break up was unfortunately far from smooth. The two argued over a number of issues, including their home, and Kelsy even claimed that she was forced to sign a separation contract. Rumors also surfaced that he'd actually dumped Kelsy for his next flame, Kristin Ratatori. 

But despite all the drama, Jonathan has long moved on. He said: "I think that one of the biggest things I learned is that you can have two good people who are just not good for each other. I’m glad that we found that out early."

Zooey's ex is actually quite supportive. In an interview, he said: "Yeah, everything is amicable and we have two beautiful children together. We've been raising them and we're going to continue to raise them, and take great care of them. I'm happy."

Call us hopeless romantics, but we're totally looking forward to seeing more cutesy photos of Zooey and her new boo, Jonathan, in the future.
