Move over, Chip and Joanna! There’s another home renovation show that takes place in the American South that we truly can’t get enough of. Obviously, we’re talking about HGTV’s Home Town, starring Erin and Ben Napier. Together, Erin and Ben are working to restore the historical homes of their beloved home town of Laurel, Miss. — and we must say, they’re doing an amazing job of it!

Meet the cast of Home Town:

  • Erin Napier — The decorative brains behind the projects on Home Town, Erin an artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design.
  • Ben Napier — A master woodworker with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He can build pretty much anything.
  • Mike Husers — Erin and Ben rely on many different local craftspeople on the show, but you’re pretty much guaranteed to see Mike in almost every episode. He’s the master of refinishing hardwood floors.

Where is Home Town filmed?

Home Town focuses on the homes local to Laurel, Miss. — Erin and Ben’s very own real-life hometown! The small town of Laurel is located about two hours from New Orleans, La. and is home to approximately 18,000 people. The city is known as the “yellow pine capital of the world” and was first incorporated in 1882 as the timber industry started to boom. Many of the homes featured on the show are located in the Laurel Central Historic District, which is home to one of the largest and most intact collections of early 20th-century architecture.

Do people get to keep the furniture used on Home Town?

In addition to renovating the structure of the home itself, Erin also completely decorates the inside of the homes on the show. The end result is usually an inviting home with a charming, vintage-meets-rustic-meets-modern decorative style. But how much of the furniture do the people featured on Home Town actually get to keep?

It actually depends on the budget for the project, which differs from house to house depending on what the family can afford. Erin actually gave a great breakdown of what each family gets to keep in an Instagram post, saying, “The homeowners' budget usually does allow for lots of pieces they get to keep and the custom pieces Ben builds for each home and I like to use the homeowner's own furnishings and objects as much as possible. For what's left, we fill the houses with goods from all our favorite local shops around Laurel (tagged in the photo) and the homeowners get a cataloged binder of everything we use that shows the special price our shop owners offer if they would like to keep it. It's a kind of ‘Welcome to the neighborhood!’”

Here’s how to watch Home Town:

As with many other HGTV shows, you can usually plan on catching a rerun or two of Home Town pretty much any day of the week. If you want to watch new episodes, they air Sundays at 8 p.m. You can also stream episodes of the show on Discovery Plus or the HGTV app. There’s also currently one season available to stream on Hulu.
