Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla got her start singing with her older brother, A.B. Quintanilla, and sister Suzie Quintanilla, in the band Selena y Los Dinos in Texas. In 1987, she won the Female Vocalist of the Year at the Tejano Awards, and shortly after, she was signed to EMI Latino.

She released her self-titled debut album in 1989, and her follow-up "Entre Mi Mundo" was released in 1992, featuring her hit single "Como La Flor."

Selena continued to have musical success, releasing "Amor Prohibido" in 1994, one of the best-selling Latin music albums in U.S. history. One year later, shortly before the release of her first English-language album "Dreaming of You," Selena was shot and killed by her former manager Yolanda Saldívar. Selena died at the age of 23.

In 1997, a biopic of her life — Selena — was released by Warner Bros., starring Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos. Selena has sold around 30 million records worldwide.
