Mike Flanagan's original series for Netflix, The Midnight Club, is based on Christopher Pike's novel of the same name and follows a similar trajectory. In both narratives, a group of adolescents diagnosed with terminal illnesses move to a Hospice center to live out their final days. At midnight, they meet to tell scary stories in the dark. They have also made a pact: whoever dies first will do all in their power to contact the others from beyond.
Flanagan tinkers with the source material a bit, adding a layer of mystery by making the hospice center haunted. Not to mention, most of the scary stories told in the show differ from the ones told in the book — at least so far.
