The video live streaming service, Twitch, focuses on video game streaming but also includes broadcasts of esports competitions, music broadcasts, and more creative content.

Created by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear in 2011, Twitch was a spinoff of Justin.tv. By 2014, the platform was the fourth-largest internet traffic source, behind Netflix, Google, and Apple. On August 25, 2014, Amazon acquired Twitch for $970 million, and Shear stayed on as CEO.

Following the deal with Amazon, Twitch went on to acquire Curse Inc., ClipMine, and Internet Games Database. In 2019, Twitch unveiled a new logo and updated site design. The streaming service also began signing exclusivity deals with high-profile streamers such as Dr DisRespect and TimtheTatman.

In August 2020, Twitch Prime was renamed Prime Gaming.

How does Twitch make money? Similar to YouTube, Twitch makes money through advertisements integrated into their system. Twitch also makes money through its two subscription options: Twitch Prime and Twitch Turbo.

Does Twitch save streams? According to Twitch, Twitch Partners, Prime, and Twitch Turbo users are able to save their broadcasts for 60 days before being deleted. All other broadcasters will have their broadcasts saved for 14 days before deletion. If you want to save content for longer, there is the option to highlight it.
