Convicted felon Wade Wilson, 30, dubbed the “Deadpool killer” due to his shared name with the Marvel character, was sentenced to death in Lee County, Fla., in August 2024 for the murders of two Cape Coral women, Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz, in October 2019. The killings were described as “random.” Melton, 35, was strangled inside her Cape Coral home after meeting Wilson at a live music bar. After the murder, he stole her car and met up with his girlfriend, Melissa Montanez, whom he also assaulted. He then encountered Ruiz, 43, who asked for directions and was invited into the car. Wilson later strangled her and discarded her body on the road.

Wilson is easily identified by his controversial tattoos, including stitches around his mouth, “Bred for war” under his chin, the letters “NMM” on his left jaw, and a swastika on his face.

Wilson, who was adopted, grew up in Tallahassee. He will be the first person to be put to death under Governor Ron DeSantis' law change permitting the death sentence with an 8-4 vote in favor, whereas previously, a unanimous decision was required.
