Singer and actress Selena Gomez might be one of the hardest working young women in entertainment. Despite helping to produce the hit Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, touring, dropping her new hit single, fetish, and managing the most-followed Instagram account in the world, the singer managed to hide a severe medical condition.
Gomez suffers from Lupus and as a result, needed a kidney transplant, which she managed to keep under wraps from her fans and the public during the summer.
She broke the news on her Instagram page, revealing that her good friend, actress Francia Raisa, went under the knife to donate her kidney.
Gomez has been recovering from the kidney transplant over the past few months, opting not to promote her new music. She plans on sharing more details of her recovery process in addition to the 3 images she shared in her Instagram post above of her in surgery, along with a photo of her operation scar.
Raisa and Gomez have been friends since 2008 and the two seem to be really, really close.
Raisa's caption reads:
"I went through heartbreak this year and you left the studio and drove out of your way to come see me and comfort me. I received good news last month and you facetimed me minutes before you went up on stage just to congratulate me. There are so many moments we have and things you do that I cherish and don't take for granted. Wether its crying, laughing, or simply sitting on my kitchen floor throwing our hands up in the air confused at life, I'm thankful you're always there. I am obsessed with every memory we've built in the last 8 years and the ones we have yet to create. I am so grateful that God put you in my life when he did. If you think about the time that we met and where we were in our lives when we first hung out, his timing was perfect. It's been so inspiring watching you grow and to grow with you. I learn so much from you and I'm so so so proud of you. Happy Birthday Hermana. Love you so so so much @selenagomez"
So close that they call each other sisters.
The two are often photographed together and are constantly appearing on each other's social media accounts.
And they're super supportive of one another, as evidenced by this adorable Twitter post where Raisa is congratulating Gomez on her Vogue cover.
Raisa's previously appeared on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but you can also see her on the upcoming Blackish spinoff, Grownish.
It's a pretty huge gig to get for any actor, but there's no doubt she's already nailed the role of being an amazing friend.
